My new-to-me 991.1 was stolen shortly after I bought it. Ideas to track it?
Hello all,
I've been lurking here for years, but I guess this is my first post. I wish it were under better circumstances.
I recently bought a 991.1 in Berlin, Germany. The car was parked in my garage while I finish the registration and insurance paperwork. But unfortunately before any of that happened, the car was stolen. I didn't get a chance to install any kind of tracking (not even AirTags, which I kept in all my other cars), and it wasn't yet insured unfortunately.
The police are useless to track it without GPS. So my question is, does anyone knows of anyway to track a car perhaps via its PCM GPS or something similar?
Thanks in advance. And make sure to keep your babies safe.
Edit: adding some info that people asked about.
Thank you again everyone who took the time to respond.

- I actually only got one key. And the dealer confirmed in writing he only got one from the previous owner. But then again, he could be lying.
- The garage is the building garage, the door stays open way too long when cars get it or out. Anyone can just slip in.
- I doubt it was towed or pulled. No evidence to that.
- I checked with insurance, it cannot be backdated unfortunately.
- There are no cameras in the garage, and I (and the police) cant get access to any cameras on the streets because of the stupid privacy data protection act in Germany.
- I went to Porsche and the guy responsible checked in front of me, the car does not have VTS.
Thank you again everyone who took the time to respond.

really sorry to hear. especially the no insurance part.
you need to contact Porsche immediately! if there is a way to track or find it, they will know. time is of the essence when dealing with this sort of thing....like before your car is chopped up into many very expensive parts
good luck

Did they clone the immobilizer? Was the key in the car? Was it towed out and placed on a flatbed hauler? It’s very hard to steal a car with high tech immobilizer built in. It’s simply not going to start.

I don’t know. I am discounting towing because it was in an underground garage. I assume maybe the old owner has a spare key or something. But I cant tell for sure.

Did you get both keys?
Porsche should be able to identify if a 3rd key was made in the past.
How did they get into your garage?
Evidence of being towed/pulled out?
Hope you can recover the vehicle.

Consider reaching out to your insurance provider. Here in the states, there is often a grace period from when you purchase the car to obtaining insurance on it. Essentially they back date the insurance. There is typically a limitation on how far back they can back date.

^^^This. Definitely worth a try. I know my insurance provider allows some time to add the car to insurance. I honestly can't remember how long though.

Wow. Very sorry to read this. Condolences. WAM is correct. Here in California, if you have other insured vehicles, you have 30 days to add the new vehicle to your policy. So, don't capitulate on the insurance issue. Best of luck.

So you never got any of the keys? Or you only got one key and the other owner still had one? It won’t start without a key, if it was a pdk model and was in park, you are not going to drag it out unless you lift the back up and if it was a C4S, you won’t be pulling it anywhere. Does the garage have security cameras? They should, was it a private garage that you need an opener to get access. None of this adds up so far.

How did the steal the car?
A few years back I was burgled and they used my keys to steal my Cayman. The car had the Porsche factory fitted VTS tracking system, although this wasn't active when I bought the car and didn't have a subscription.
My local Porsche centre advised me to contact the company that manage their tracking (Cobra at the time, now Vodafone). They were able to locate the car and send the police to pick it up. They charged me £250 emergency fee plus £250 for a years subscription, but I only had to pay if they found the car.
As far as I am aware, all Porsches from 2008 onwards have VTS installed by default, but I'm not sure if that's just euro cars, but worth checking.

OP: Are you sure you didn't get scammed? Is your garage a parking garage, single family home garage?

Contact who you can to get CCTV footage. Any neighbors, parking garage cameras, your city (they can pull traffic light cameras all around you), will have something on camera around that time. It may be related to your dealer... They have your address and possibly a second key.
