Default Winter - Mice Repellent

Does anyone have a real-world recommendation or experience with some preventative maintenance when it comes to rodents and winter?

We had mice crawl into air filters in the past (in a detached garage), and heard horror stories about chewed wires. I keep my 911 covered and it stays outside in the cold overnight (with an outdoor cover of course). Would like to have an idea of what you guys have used, and where you've placed any solution. Thanks!

not a joke. get a cat or two or just start feeding some local strays. rodents steer clear of houses with cats and if they don't the cats tear them to shreds and sometimes they even bring you the trophy.

Thought of that, but we are not cat people... at all.

Nice!
I don't want to give them anything to smell and hunt/climb for. I heard they hate the smell of things like Peppermint.

This is who I am, https://www.413pestfree.com/about-am...pest-solutions
In colder temps glue based trapping devices become infective. I would use a combination of old fashion snaps with different bait options like peanut butter, chocolate, a meat like SlimJim. Also add rodenticide stations to the perimeter. Look for the Tomcat brand with the active ingredient bromethalin as mice will die within 24 hours of feeding. Putting some stations around the outside of the garage is also important but be sure they are secured to the surface and use a block formulation of brometh as it has no antidote and you dont want it consumed by non target animals. These are professional methods and are highly effective. I have zero data to support the use of ultrasonic devices. Keep in mind in a situation like this you cant really over device the space but most consumers make the mistake of under devising.
Unable to comment on the cat but fleas also come with that option.

Sometimes I feel this rodent eating wires is more myth than reality. Not saying it doesn’t happen. But I’ve been around a lot of cars since 1971 and have yet to see, hear, experience this urban RL’s myth.

Absolutely happened on the 914 I restored. That car had two nests with some amount of nibbling on wire insulation near both.

I would just invite them in as pets/guests and they leave your car alone.

Do you think maybe older Porsche’s have tastier wires? I can’t see what would ever attract a mouse to eat a wiring harness unless it was truly tasty because of some sort of chemical used. A study should be done.

My garage was a cluttered mess, thus a mouse haven. Lots of nooks and crannies to build nests. I’ve since cleaned up and finished my garage. Everything organized in cabinets and nothing on the floor. Sealed up every hole/crack.

I drive my car occasionally in winter and hang out in my garage regularly so that activity keeps them away. I’m mostly worried about mice getting at my camping equipment. They’d easily destroy an expensive tent so that cabinet is loaded with mothballs and these cedar smelling ‘rodent repellent’ packs. Also got poison blocks under the cabinets and fortunately thus far they haven't been touched.

Mixed feelings on poison as my concern is it may attract them. Sure they wont get far, but would rather them not be there at all.
