Winter - Mice Repellent
#17
I’ve posted this before. I use this inside, but it can be used outdoors inside of a small, secured wooden box painted to match your house. That is what many farmers do around their barns. By “ secured” I mean secured to the ground in such a way as to prevent bear, racoon, etc from lifting it up.
Use the “Bucket of Death”. Three inches of diluted antifreeze in the bottom prevents any kind of rot or smell. Be sure to add a ramp and keep near a corner or wall. I add a little fresh peanut butter, every few weeks, until the bottle is fully circled.
After about a year, pour in some kitty litter and dispose the whole thing. Or, wash it….. I just start with a new bucket, bottle and cut wire hanger.
Living in the woods, I barely make a dent in the population. First line of defense are outside bait stations. However, if anything makes it inside, I have this as the second line of defense. Then I have glue traps in a few under shelf locations along the walls.

Appreciate all the insight. I'll take a look locally to see if I can find anything you guys recommended.
Here is a little more info to see exactly how and where the car will sit.
I picked the old house. It was smaller with a massive detached garage. Then we had kids and they needed more room. She found a house she wanted, but unfortunately it had the 2car garage converted. The plan was to convert it back right away, but then we realized it was perfect as a playroom for the little ones.... needless to say I'm stuck without a garage now for a few more years.
Old detached garage had a built-in pit where I used to work on my cars (pictures below). That is where we found the nest in her intake.. and we ended up setting traps and catching an army of them. That's why I'm concerned. We DID have to set traps in this house's crawl space for mice already when we first moved in. Hopefully that crawlspace home is good enough for them.
Old garage they were getting into.
I miss this thing....
Where the car sits now. I have a trickle charger on it and it's covered.

I have bar bait , liquid poisons, traps , ultra sonic devices , strobe lights , peppermint and moth ***** . They have eaten wiring in Polaris ranger , gmc duramax . All parked outside under a shed . Nothing has worked for long . I guess cats are my next choice

I have read that some modern wires have insulation plastic made from soy, and might be more tasty than old petroleum-based stuff.

Just bought a used '14. I am doing the normal maintenance when you buy a used car and started to replace the cabin filters.... yup, a huge nest of something underneath the frunk filter. I have to remove the battery tray to clean it all out, but got a lot of it out. Most likely a mouse based on the droppings. I am grateful no wiring damage or at least none that I know of because car works fine. I have no clue how deep the nesting material goes in the car. May have to take off the underbody trays.

I use this, no issues after I started using it. It's nasty stuff, I spray it on anything close to touching the floor, like tires, suspension, etc. Triggers the "fight or flight" instinct, supposedly.

I too have found a small nest in my cars around the time the temperature dips below 40 F at night. I placed a bird decoy (hawk or owl etc.) then I make sure to park the car away from the house. Finally I used some of the cinnamon or peppermint oil to help deter them from entering my car.
