Second thoughts….
I’m in the process of selling my 05 C2S for a 991.2 T or S model. Having second thoughts about it. Going to post the same/similar question in the 991 forum…
Has anyone here gone from a 997.1 to a 991.2 and regretted it? Or has has anyone moved from a 997.1 to a 991.2 and loved it?

Probably depends on what you use the car for, how you enjoy it, what you expect from it, etc. Which are a lot of individual specifics. It’s not like 997.1 C2S are rare cars, so if you dont enjoy the 991.2, you can always get another one down the road, or even upgrade to something like a GT3. Personally, I was considering all these things, and would have taken the right 997GTS, C2S, GT3, etc. if one came along, but a nice 991.2 T popped up and I scooped it up without regrets. I’ve driven 997’s, plenty of friends with nice ones, and wanted one for a long time, but the T was an attractive combination of classic goodness (turbo, RWD, 245 front/305 rear tires, carbon buckets, mechanical LSD, etc.), which does not fail to please when I take it somewhere I can enjoy it in its element. I think if you drive a T and can enjoy it as it’s meant to be enjoyed, you will not be disappointed. My vote is go for it!

More room inside though. I had a 987.1 and the 991 is just a better car.

I just did this swap. I had a beautiful silver over gray immaculate 05 C2S 6 MT which I owned for 10 years. At age 70 and after last year’s minor left foot surgery I decided it was time to move to a more comfortable and modern PDK 991 of some sort. I eventually decided to focus on 991.2s for the torque around town and because I was familiar with twin turbo cars after also previously having a 2015 M4 for several years. After searching this summer I found a low mileage (12.5k) 2017 C2S with PDK, sport chrono, PSE.
My experience has been mixed. The car certainly is fast, much more comfortable (better for trips with my wife), sounds good when starting up, and looks sharp on those 20” RS Spyder wheels. But I do miss the deep Porsche exhaust sound, the analogue feel, the sounds and smells and ticking metal after a hard run, and the general pleasure of driving a sports car rather than a GT car. Yes, I could take this to the track and enjoy its much higher limits then. But I probably won’t. I figure I’ll give it a year and see if I warm to it. I may. It took me 2 years to really appreciate the 997.1 after coming out of a beloved 1989 911 silver anniversary edition. Maybe the same will happen here.

My 997 is my daily and also occasionally at the track. I am considering a newer car in part simply because it’s newer. Other than that the car I have is extremely well specd out and checks all of the boxes for me. The other appeal of the 991.2 is the turbocharged engine. My wife’s car is turbocharged and with very little work it has opened up a lot and really changed the car. I am imagining the same with the 991.2.

Interesting that you are excited about the TT in the 991.2. (Or maybe I misread you). I have a tuned base 991.2 and while it is almost as fast the 991.2 S I miss my 2013 991.1 NA.
i wish I could get the tech in the 991.2 and the engine of my old 991.1.

I had a 997.1 C4S, a 997.2 C4S and now a 991.2 C4S. With a S4 and a Shelby mixed in. So, the rawest 911 was the 997.1, I did the exhaust, the air filter, the IDP plenum, FVD tune and Numeric shifter and cables and GT3 Tb. It was a angry hornet, not really good for long drives as I usually had a headache after a 7 hour drive. But in the twisties sure was fun. The 997.2 was a bit more grown up, and I did minor mods on it. Both easy to work on all by myself…no need to remove bumper..the hardest one was lowering the engine a bit to get that damm coolant tank out!!
But I’ve got the 991.2 now, it’s more grown up and not as raw, which is fine as I hit 60 soon. I tried to find another 997.2 manual C4S, but wow the prices on them are up! So I looked and looked and found a manual 991.2 C4S. So that’s my take. Raw versus Refined versus old tech and new tech,

Interesting CarPlay solution
In the last year I have owned a 992 C4S, 991.2 C4S and now a 991.1 C4S. The 911 in any of the aforementioned iteration has been my personal daily (which means I drive it hard every given opportunity)s. I absolutely loved my 991.2, despised the 992 despite the technology being amazing. The 991.2 was a really nice sweet spot, until I drove the 991.1. The lack of technology was the only drawback, and more specifically just the lack of CarPlay. So your comment about the new tech in an older Porsche resonated. This was my solution, a CarPlay screen that connects to the car via bluetooth. No disassembly of the PCM required, just a few strips of velcro, and a 12v wire to a switched fuse. Phone is still through the PCM so call quality is unaffected.
Are any wires visible? Do you mind sharing more details and pics about how you rigged this solution up?

OP, with each generation of 911 the comfort and tech improves and (maybe because of that) some rawness is lost. take a 991.2 for a long drive if you are able before you decide.
i had an '82 SC and have a '95 993 and an '12 991.1. the SC was the most fun and go-kart like, the 993 is the perfect middle except A/C in Arizona summers and the 991 is the fastest and most capable but it's limits are far beyond my skill set.

Creative CarPlay solution; is there a particular reason you went this route over doing a JoyAuto or NM rAuto PCM retrofit? I was considering doing one of those, but am now pretty intrigued with the solution you’ve come up with.

No wires visible, used the fuse box in the drivers side to a switched fuse. Ran the single power wire under the steering wheel panel and came out right to the side of the unit. See below picture.
