I had a 997.2 Base and went to an 991.1S.
The 991.1 is a step-up in most aspects. Faster, more comfortable, looks better (IMO) and SOUNDS massively better. But, there are some things that I miss about the 997:

- Main thing is the rear-engined feel which has been almost entirely dialed out of the 991's. I was always aware of the engine being out there in the 997, I could feel its weight and learned to respect it. That is not the case in the 991 which feels like a mid-engine car.
- Solidity. The 997 felt really well screwed together. No rattles, squeaks etc. The steel doors felt like bank vault doors, vs. the weight saving aluminum no the 991.

Yes, the Joyauto does not allow scrolling, so you have to carefully select the little dots on the screen if you want to change screens within the main CarPlay OS. In maps and Spotify scrolling is a necessary for me, which isn't possible. If the screen could be updated to allow that it would have been a no-brainer for me. A friend has the joy auto installed, it looks nice but the function is clunky. This solution is clunky as well, but allows full functionality and I didnt have to open the PCM to get it done. So in truth half laziness, half not wanting to have an almost unusable interface.
No wires visible, used the fuse box in the drivers side to a switched fuse. Ran the single power wire under the steering wheel panel and came out right to the side of the unit. See below picture.

To confirm, the only wire is the power going to the fusebox? No issues with connecting both phone and car to the unit's bluetooth?
Thanks

So OP! What have you decided?
as I mentioned before I moved from the 991.1 to the 991.2. While I crazy miss the 991.1 NA sound and the linear accelerations, I have to say that I do enjoy the newer technology on the 991.2.
maybe one day when money is no issue, I’d buy another NA 911, not necessarily a 991.1 but one that is 911 purist.

After driving a 991.2 base model around for a day I decided to take down the for sale ad and keep my 997.1 for the time being. I don’t want to sell my car and be on the hunt for a replacement. The carrera T is a very intriguing model and the only one that I’ll continue to keep an eye out for. If/when the perfect one comes up I’ll take the plunge and will try to swing holding onto the 997 and will only sell it after buying the T and being absolutely sure I’d rather have one over the other. Decided to start ticking items off of the shopping list for the 997 and pulling the trigger on some upgrades I was holding off on doing.
thank you all for the feedback! If you are interested in seeing what the 997 guys had to say here is a link to the post:

Thanks for sharing the 997 forum. the feedback there is really good!
also, as the above poster said, why did you not consider the 991.1? It really is comptent different than the 991.2 and I think drives MORe like a 997 since it’s an NA. Only reason I sold mine is because I wanted the damn “new” tech (hated the UI on the PCM, backup camera, Apple CarPlay etc.)

I had not considered the 991.1 because I was looking at the turbocharged power plant as a plus but might be worth reconsidering or even looking at 997.2 as well.

Haha that’s the one thing I hate about my 991.2, I can care less for the TT.

I’m thinking that a few upgrades could dial the power way up and that was/is the attraction. While overall HP is only a part of the equation it sure has its charm. 😂

I think I mentioned before that I tuned my base and Jesus Christ the car can hardly stay on the road when I press the gas paddle (not even flooring it)… so I do see the allure to software tune a 991.2 (10 mins and you gain 100 Hp).

I would highly recommend driving a 991.1 with an exhaust. I searched for an oddball 991.1, they will be the 993 of the coming days. I've had big turbo cars in the past, and the most fun I ever had are the ones you can drive hard everywhere. Not fun if you get on it for 5sec at a time and have to let off, and have to deal with modifying and updating everything else that gets strained. I've had 800hp modified big turbo Audi's in my day, and the most fun I ever have driving are in the cars that are powered just right and are ear-gasms with sound.
