I've been retired two years now. Before I retired my daily driver was a 2012 C2S. Just before retiring I bought my Turbo S as a retirement present to myself. It had 8K miles when I bought it, but just turned over 42K today. In fact all my Porsches have been daily drivers. I enjoy every moment behind the wheel and don't care about the milage. I'm careful when parking and, knock on wood, have no dents or scratches that I didn't do myself.

I retired about 4.5 years ago at 61. I had bought my 2015 Targa about 5 months before and it was my daily driver. As I retired in November, I did not end up getting snow rims and tires for it as I had on my 2011 911 C4S I had before. The Targa had under 800 miles on it (in two years) when I bought it and it now has about 47K. I drive it as a DD, but very little in the Iowa winters. Only when it’s dry and not so cold. On other days I/we use my wife’s BMW X3 and also in the summer for Costco and dog (Great Dane) hauling trips. I also have a 2002 BMW Z8 and I have put over 80K miles on it (it’s up-to 111K miles - not too many around like that!) since 2005 so I am not afraid to put miles on my cars. Yes, there has been a few incidents with them, but that’s life and as they are keepers and not part of investment portfolio, I’d rather just drive and have fun.

I like enjoying my cars and I couldn’t do that if I worried every time I took one out. I am fortunate to have two great cars that I drive and enjoy every time I take them out. In bad weather and when snow tires are required, the X3 is great (snows in winter - no all seasons).

I know not everybody feels or thinks like I do, but I have never regretted for a moment what I have done with the cars

Default Jeep wrangler

I have a nice jeep wrangler up in Tally I'm selling for 16k. Been a perfect daily for the past 10 years. Upgrading to a new Bronco 2 door. It's all about income level. Doctors can drive a GT2 to work everyday. For those below the million a year mark that's a pricey proposition. Having a beater makes sense in so many ways but it doesn't have to be boring.

Default Retired also

I am retired also and spend time in 2 states. I keep my 997 Cab in one and my 991 Coupe in the other. We drive back and forth with a late model Subaru Outback and use it as our "grocery store" car in both places. This works well as we can take fun trips in a Porsche wherever we are. A good friend gave me the idea as he does the same with 2 Corvettes. I am cautious using the Porches for errands and shopping for the obvious parking lot issues.

I'm retired and old and the only thing I want to drive is my 991.2.

This to me is an interesting comment which actually is not that uncommon. I would be interested to know why not? (I don’t mind driving in the rain any more or less than any other car). Is it

A) Worried about loss of traction for me (high performance tires)
B) Worried about loss of traction for others (not adjusting speed to conditions)
C) Worried about car getting vet and possibly rusting/discoloring (undercarriage or elsewhere)
D) Worried about having to wash the car?
C) Something else?

40+ years ago when I joined the Porsche club, one of the Silverbacks said "I have never seen a gravestone that said "Oh, darn, I drove my Porsche too much"". Additionally, never been sure of the economic upside of purchasing an additional vehicle to potentially reduce the operating costs of the car you actually enjoy driving.

I got my first Porsche, 991.1 C2S, when I was 68, not retired but still working. I too drive it all the time as that is why I bought it to drive, not to see how few miles I can put on it a year! We are out every weekend and I use it daily. The only thing that stops me is snow, other than that, it runs! I also don't care about the mileage as it's very well maintained and cared for and runs like a scared rabbit when I want it to. My wife and I recently completed a 4500 mile cross country trip, over 5 weeks, and we enjoyed every driving moment. Couldn't have been more pleased. Didn't p[ay any attention to all the long trip advise about spare tire, repair kits, extra parts etc. Prepped the car well and drove without looking back. Not an issue at all and got 29mpg average for the trip. You are only as old as you feel and when I am in this car, it takes years away in the blip of the throttle.

I also keep my car spotless but driving it anywhere will get it dirty, rain or shine! I will drive all weekend long, on nice country drives, and when you return it's not 'spotless'! Dust and bugs will adhere rain or shine. If you want to keep it 'spotless', then you pretty much have to keep it garaged, which I am NOT about to do. These cars are fantastic in the rain and on wet roads so why not enjoy. Once I get back, with the applied PPF and Ceramic coating, most everything just rinses off with a quick spray of CarPro 'LIFT' which cuts right through most of the road grime and dust between major washes. As I said, I enjoy it rain or shine, and to each his own. Safe driving out there.

I bought my T June of 2019 and it has not seen rain. I just don’t enjoy washing/detailing cars the way I did when I was younger. Since I only drive it in nice weather I wash it 3-4 times a year and maintain it between washes with QD and waterless wash. Wheels are cleaned every two months. Works for me and to each their own.

Just drive it and enjoy the last years of your life.
