This behavior isn't limited to us older owners, we have younger owners who won't drive their 911s in the rain, avoid parking lots, don't want to rack up too many miles (decrease value/avoid traffic incidents//etc).

Bottom line, do what makes you happy and not worry.

For the elderly there's a time when driving skills diminish and reach the point you need to stop driving. Seen it happen. That's when you hang up the keys, sell or pass the car on.

I'm not there yet so miles to go and people to annoy with a loud 911.

at 70 i realized to hang up my motorcycle keys,,not the Porsche though,,got another ,20/30 years for that:}

I never cared about putting miles on cars… just drive the vehicle that’s best suited for what I’m doing, going out for a drive - Porsche, hauling garbage to the dump - truck, grocery store - Audi, dog (75 lbs) to dog park - truck, out to dinner - Porsche most of the time. I find having choices if you can afford them makes for less stress. And being retired is all about less stress.

I bought a 991.1 to drive. I drive it. I am semi retired, in Buffalo. When I fully retire, I’ll take cross country trips and visit places that may not be friendly to foreign cars, sports cars, or Jews. I’ll have concerns and decide judiciously yet not constrain myself to protect or create a speculative future.

I invested in a car. I don’t need to make money on it. I don’t care about resale value. I may not ever sell it. Dings and dents are inevitable, even in a Corvette museum. That’s why I don’t buy Tiffany or Chihuly fine art glass. I plan on winter driving and am saving for snow (19”) wheels and tires. I have an AWD C300 for snowy days; and a gentle car wash for salt enabling me to enjoy 911 driving during magical weather when bright oblique sunshine makes pure fresh snow glitter along side dry strands of asphalt spaghetti.

Retired, not retired, irrelevant.

Cars are depreciating assets (even in this hyper inflationary, supply constrained environment, esp. after you take into consideration the costs of maintenance, insurance, registration fees, etc.)

Drive the damn thing.

Especially because you're retired as it just means you're probably on the back nine of your lifespan. You could die tomorrow, meaning you would've left all those happy miles with the 911 undriven.

Retired a year ago. Replaced my company Nissan Murano with a CPO Porsche Macan S for those NE winters.
Sold my Ferrari 360(Ferrari maintenance costs make Porsche look like a Toyota!). Replaced with a CPO 2015 911 S.
Both great vehicles with different functions.
I drive the 911 as much as possible when the weather is good. Lowes, grocery store etc. Just did 100 mile each way to my cottage on the Cape in the 911. Excellent driver's Porsche!

A Tesla, a T, an F-150 and a couple of bikes... (all Tetris'd in for a recent storm, the truck usually gets the driveway all to herself.) I would not hesitate to keep the 911... Everything we own/drive has a purpose and best case use. I am sure you can figure yours out too.

You're retired. You can park wherever you like in a lot and walk to wherever you are going without worrying about rushing or the idiots who fling open their doors...
Every mile is a smile and you've earned it in this life...
There are few other cars that you can do it all in like a Porsche, particularly a 911. Don't leave the family! You are getting too old for regrets...
