Nice. We finally took the plunge and bought a winter home in southern Florida to get away from brutal NH winters. Lovely place at least where we are.

I find it interesting that those who have retired or are close to retiring are worried about putting too many miles or not wanting to subject the car to bad roads, parking lot dings, etc. Do you think you are going to live forever or are you saving it for the next guy? Just drive it and enjoy the last years of your life.

Life is too short. Drive that thing every day. What are you saving it for?

Congratulations on retirement. If you can only have one car and one car only, a 911 is not a single family car sort of vehicle. It's an excellent sports cars for it's handling and fun for one to two passengers, and that's it. Everything else is a compromise, from hauling several people, to space for cargo, to just parking it wherever and not have to worry about it. If you can keep the fun 911 and have another for hauling and errands, that would be best. If just one vehicle, the RAV4 would probably serve you better than a 911.

Been retired nearly 20 years and ordered/bought my 911 3 years ago. While at work for 25 years had a company car same as OP.

Drive it everywhere, it has nearly 20k miles. I park it but take care to pick the right spot. Living in Florida helps me do this.

Past 65 yoa and TBH you never know how much time you have left.

My philosophy, enjoy and wear it out.

However, I will leave it in the garage during Love Bug season.

I would say that it is not so much whether you can make do with the 911 as your only car as much as whether you want to.

Not everyone is wired the same way as you and some might be thinking they want to pass the car along to a child, nephew etc.. To each their own.

We just gave away, to a friends son in college, a 2004 Prius. It is a hybrid, needs no charging, self charges, noting it can't be driven on pure battery power....we put 280,000 miles on that car, about 18,000 miles a year...no troubles to speak of. Ran it on 87 octane, the cheapest gas out there, got 36 MPG aroung town, and 42 MPG on the road...believe it or not, beause of the electric/gas combo, acceleration was more than adequate getting on a freeway, instant toorque from the electeric motor...it also had regenerative braking so the brakes lasted oner 100,000 miles. All we did was the prescribed maintenance, on time, every time.

I want get another one, a 2004 - 2006 Prius, for rambing around town at our second home that we are fortunate enough to have....At the preliminary stages of looking for another Prius; loved that car.

Not retired, but just recently bought a third car - a 100 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. I dailyed my 911 for 6 years, but with my job moving to full time work from home, I am driving it less and less for errands around town. I used to rent a pickup truck once or twice a year to take some junk to the dump, pick up some mulch, dirt, rocks, etc. But with the recent craziness in the rental car industry, finding a pickup to rent near me at a reasonable price was becoming difficult. I also like to go hiking a lot in Shenandoah and other parks near me, so leaving the 911 or my wife's Macan at the trailhead wasn't something that I particularly felt great about. Enter the Land Cruiser. It's already got dings and scratches, but it'll run until the end of the world. Plus, jumping into the 911 after driving it makes me appreciate the 911 all the more. If I needed more of a commuter car, I would have gone in a different direction since it actually gets worse gas mileage than the 911, but for my needs, it fit the bill.

Drive the 911. Rack up the miles and enjoy it. Why preserve it for the next owner? You just retired so why not enjoy life to the fullest. Don’t be bothered by dings etc. - it’s a car and that’s what it’s meant to do.

If you worry about how your miles will lower the car’s value - I bet it makes more sense to drive it than to get a $30k extra car. The money you save by not driving it will go into the price of the new car plus insurance.

I'd say it really depends on your financial situation. I'm picking up my 911 today (my first Porsche). You can bet it will be my DD.

Retired last fall. I have a 2012 C2 with 101,000 miles or so. It was my daily driver to my office and the courts.

We have two cars (plus an MGB), a Prius Plug-In, and an Outback. I take my Porsche out at least once a week - dings? dents? not if you park in the Guam section of the parking lot. The walk will be good for you. Mileage? Who cares? I ordered the car to my specs and never worried about miles on the odometer - that car is for me to use and use up. It's not an investment. My dealer often comments that the more the car is used, the fewer the problems.

These days we use the electric car the most. It plugs in and gets 40 miles or so on electric and averages 133 mpg with electric and 70 mpg without. Out last prius died at 216000. The Outback for long trips or when a large carrying capacity is required. We have four garage spots, two in a separate free-standing garage I had built..

Enjoy your retirement, it certainly beats working.

I am retired and my 991S is my daily driver. I always bring it up to full oil operating temperature, however. Just avoid real short trips until engine oil is warm. I think most experts will say that it is better for the car to regularly drive it so long as it is fully warmed up each time. But, I do also have a truck which I drive whenever the 991S not a good choice ( need mulch, lumber, etc.), not because I do not want to put miles on the 991.The Porsche is always my first choice.

When I was young and working i used whatever only car I had at the time (914, 911 S, 911 SC) as a daily driver and track car. I had a story about every track blemish and didn't worry about them or too much about parking lots.

Now that I am old and retired, I divide time between two that are equally fun, and worry equally about every stone chip and parking lots !
