I'm retired and we used to have 3 cars and I drove a Ferrari and had an Audi as a bad weather car. Sold the Ferrari because I didn't want the maintenance headache and cost and also sold the Audi and now have a 17 Carrera and my wife's Macan. I drive the 911 everywhere and even in winter. So nice unlike the Ferrari to have a sports car you are not afraid to drive anywhere. If the car causes you angst,, sell it and get something you don't have to worry about. Retirement is supposed to be fun and no worries.

The day I retired I went into a Porsche dealer bought a new 991.2 4S.(Its when they actually provided a small discount. Remember those days?) It's been 20 months since and have 7000 miles on it driving a mix local and north GA mountains. its never been on a freeway and maybe got caught in the rain once or twice so I do have rules for it. I use it for errands and park in safe places. In my experience and noted by other Rennlisters, P cars are very reliable and when maintained are actually low risk for unexpected breakdowns and repairs. To mitigate miles I have a Cayenne and pick up with which to share the trips and nursery hauls. Recently I bought a 10 year old Mercedes S550 x-garage queen. It was relatively inexpensive and a great car to mitigate miles with the others and enjoy a nice, albeit much different, cruising type ride experience. So bottom line a second car would be useful and lets you keep the magic of P car experience.

When asked, " What am I doing in retirement?" I rotate between two answers. 1. Anything I want to. and 2. Waiting for tomorrow. If it comes then today was a great day.

That’s it Martin, you’re banned from this site.

(at least mention Porsche for balance next time)

Any offspring or relative that is upset that the 911 they inherit has too many miles or a few door dings or paint chips didn't deserve it in the first place.

I am retried for two+ years now. Personally I have a 911 and a Toyota 4Runner. I save the 911 for nice days and use the 4Runner for the rest. My wife has a 2013 Lexus RX450h and finally broke 30K miles on it. She drives 5 miles back and forth to work. I would not want a 911 as my only car. If I could only keep one it would be the 4Runner as it is super versatile and reliable. Gets crap gas mileage though. For the OP I would keep the 911 and get some other more expendable versatile car for hauling stuff and bad weather.

I’m going with the “enjoy it while you have it” school of thought-at least for now. My wife has a Mazda CX-5 (never drove one until she got it and they’re great cars) so I have an alternative. She’s going to keep working while I relax, so hopefully she’ll loan it to me once in a while or if I need to haul something from Home Depot. A word to some of the younger guys here: I never thought I’d get old but it’s gonna happen (hopefully) to you too. I normally feel like I’m 30 years old, not 68, but when I get out in the Porsche I’m closer to 18 again!

Do yourself a favor and don't rush into buying a cheap econo box like a Mazda 3. You earned your retirement and you earned driving an awesome car! Try the 911 out as a solo car. Parking lots are a non issue. Just park a little farther away and pick an end spot and park on the far edge. Presto, no dings for me ever. If you find you must have a second car, I would suggest buying a used XXX. Something you will truly enjoy and feel rewarded in driving. You shouldn't feel deprived or like you downgraded because you choose to leave the 911 in the garage. That is bearable for the occasional rental car when traveling. But not multiple times per week! I bought a used Audi A8. Everyone's taste is different. But no doubt there's an alternative to a cheap hatchback that you will actually enjoy driving. You would be surprised how inexpensive a used luxury/performance sedan can be.

I daily drive a C4S in the Northeast for the last 5 years. I take the car everywhere, Costco, airport short term parking, etc. The only time I am more careful is when I am in NYC. Otherwise, I swap in a set of winter tires when it gets below 40, and it can handle light snow without any issue. 911 is such a great car to drive all the time!!!

My position may be a bit different but I was able to retire fairly young (Still run a few side businesses that occupy 2-3 hrs a day).

A year before I retired I built my garage I had wanted for many years, finished with AC & Heat and made it a garage/office.

I have a few cars as the 911 would not be suitable for a daily driver with younger children. The 911 is a fair weather queen and spends the majority of time in the garage.

The Audi TTS and Audi A6 Allroad serve as daily drivers, one when I have the kids with me and one when I am Solo running errands.

The plan is to eventually sell/trade the Audi TTS for another 911, which will then push one of the 911's to a daily driver when solo or have 1 child with me.

Not a big traveler since I spent the majority of my life commuting in **** NYC traffic and running a side business. I built my home and garage as an everyday vacation. When I drive it is for pleasure or local errands.

Wife has her own car, XC90, and will start picking up her career while I pursue Dad duties and playing with my cars. Life is good, enjoy it while you are in good health to the fullest.

Semi-retired, still working as a reservist in the RCAF. I save the 911 for nice days and fun drives. I try not to use it for short errands where the motor won't get up to temp. Of course, sometimes it has taken me an hour to get some milk from the store 1 mile away ;-) . Daily driving is mostly my F150. Trucks are so damn handy when you have a house that's not in the city. Also have a 91 Cherokee with a big lift for fun in the mountains.
