The 991.2 is better in basically every way, but I'd still rather grab the keys to a 991.1 GTS. Far more unique and a better overall driving experience.

991.2 for sure because with PDK you need the turbos to get strong acceleration from a stop or very low speed. LCA is very important and is implemented in a way that is obvious with 3 bright red vertical bars on the door which is better than in the mirror like the 992. My car is a 2017 991.2 with PDK, Chrono, PSE, LCA, and 20" S wheels. Frankly I think the base 991.2 is the best option. Car and Driver says 0-60 3.4 and quarter in 11.9 . That's quick. I don't like the center lock wheels on the GTS. The S isn't worth the extra money imo.

Default Cab driver probably would prefer a .2

However, you failed to mention if it had centerlocks or ceramic brakes. I would guess you wanna steer away from those track type options in a vert. I, too, prefer Alacantra. I don't have and have never needed the front lift. The .1 came with pdcc automatically, I think.

One would think but no

.1 GTS didn't even come standard with 030 Sport PASM

031 PDCC In conjunction with Sport PASM was also an option, not standard

same is true for .2 GTS

ceramics aren’t the best choice on the track either tbh. If you want upgraded brakes the AP racing brakes are even lighter than ceramics and perform even better than what comes OEM on 992 GT cars.

Also PDCC on the .1 isn’t great compared to just upgrading the sway bars and suspension. A full tractive setup + DSC controller is under $10k and blows away what comes stock on the 991.2.

I’ve never found a need for FAL even with my car being lowered below SPASM height and my driveway being steep. Just gotta learn to take things at an angle and not cry at the occasional scrape.

I have owned and driven the 991.1 S (Non-GTS & lacking Sport Chrono) on the track as well as the 991.2 GTS. Lacking Sport Chrono on the 991.1 S, this i=n't an "apples to apples" comparison. All I know is when driving the 17 GTS Sport Chrono car in Sport +, Mother of God. I actually chased down a 992 S and a late model GT3. It was promarily the car, not my driving skills...and I never hit the PSRB.

I wrore an article comparing the 991.1 S and the 991.2 S cars. PM me with an email address and I'll send it top you.

Your heart says .1 but your wallet says .2
I think a lot of us have been there… although I would say spending more than 100k for a car is more a sentimental purchase rather than a rational one, so what’s the point of spending 20k less if you end up with a car that is not the one you truly want…
Drive them both and you will know.
I did and I chose .1 GTS.

NB: depending on your own personal situation, FAL could be a must have, so better check the ground clearance at your place for fear of being disappointed, GTS front bumper are usually famous for scrapping.

To add to this, I've owned a 991.1 C4S which I sold for a 991.2 GTS which I sold for a 991.2 TTS. The 991.2 GTS is a great car, but there was a better turbocharged 991 the real TT.

Emotionally, letting go of the keys to the C4S hurt more than when I let go of the keys to the 991.2 GTS. A feeling which only hits you as the sale/trade happens. The C4S made me feel like a menace from the overall raw experience. You don't have to wind it out all the way to get the satisfaction. The low RPM rumbles sound amazing too and the exhaust had a "ricochet" sound effect which I've never heard in any other car but a Porsche. Even the 3.8 TTS sounds magnificent with headers/exhaust, smooth and refined. 991.2 Carrera with headers and exhaust still sounds like a garbled mess. Loud and menacing in it's own way but unrefined and messy.

My local dealer:

If that's how the current market is and you want a turbocharged 991, go for the 3.8 TT/TTS.

For these .1 vs .2 threads I think the answer depends on your intended use and preferences. Everyone has different taste. They are both great cars. Drive them and buy the one you enjoy more. The .1 is the last of the NA Carreras but it’s not rare and I doubt values will go up much bc there are still NA GT cars. I guess it does say something that the GT3/RS are still NA.

When 991.1's get to 993 age, watch them sell for north of 200k and even 300k for mint/low mileage examples. Still at least 10-15 years away from that but watch it happen.

Even earlier than 10 yrs, All caymans will be electric, 991 Carrera will be a Turbo+ Electric Hybrid and GT3/GT3 RS (Also GT4/GT4 RS) will probably be the only N/A engine cars in the Entire line up

I just hope that I get to enjoy this N/A Gem for as long as possible.. (because life happens)

Already kicking myself for selling Gems like FD RX-7, M-Coupe, E39 M5 etc etc (Not to mention walking away form a cheap 964 and NSX years ago)

Lessons learned

After enjoying a country run with other brands such as ///M BMW’s would you rather be leaning on your point 1 saying, Yeah but the sound? Or smiling in your point two when they all run up to you and say, Jesus that thing goes?

It’s interesting how everyone at the track has forgotten about the sound of the GT3’s screaming their heads iff at 9,000 rpm as they disappear in your revision mirror.
Since going catless, everyone says how great my car sounds now. A screaming N/a is only nice when its in front. It’s just complaining when its falling behind, losing bad.

The point 2’s stopped all the lessor cars saying, “You paid all that money to loose?” Point 2’s shut that **** down.

TL/DR

You want instant torque and/or track times, get the .2 ---That powerplant has way more torque and power potential after mods PERIOD.

You enjoy the linear power and sound of an N/A motor, and to a big extent, Nostalgia of a dying breed, get the .1 - One could argue that the N/A cars could potentially hold their values longer, but all conjecture and doesn't REALLY matter IMO.

NO LOSING DECISION HERE

/Thread LOL

I'm not trying to start a fight but if driving dynamics don't matter and speed is all that matters, there are other cars that will beat either car for less money. Like a Corvette, maybe. It is a purely individual choice on what makes the car fun.

Wow you did have some great gems!

You almost make feel good about my own automotive mistakes :
- did not buy NSX when they were 30-35k
- did not buy 190SL when they were 50-55k
- did not buy 993 C2 when they were 30-35k
The only mistake I repaired was the 993.

You are right, I got my .1 GTS and I am lucky I got the opportunity to buy it, holding onto it no matter what.
