Default 991.2 Sound Symposer delete

I was driving one Saturday morning and randomly pulled into a parking lot, removed the engine cover and fans, unplugged the 2 sound symposer hoses and continued on my drive. I was curious what this would sound like. Well no going back now. I love the all natural sound, intake, engine, turbo and exhaust are all a balanced sound now. I could have left the hoses unplugged but I decided to go all in. Removed the bumper and deleted the whole system. Here are the parts needed if anybody else wants to reap the extreme weight savings, less engine bay clutter and enjoy what the engine really sounds like.

I didn’t realize one could disconnect it from the engine bay. What do those parts weigh?

The hose pops off the white firewall adapter by simply squeegeeing the sides of the hose and pulling. The white adapter can be removed from the firewall by twisting it 90° and it just falls out. I was being sarcastic, the whole system weights 2-3 pounds.

when packing for mountain warfare training the saying was “ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain” but luckily I’m not having to huff every pound of my car up to 12,000 ft.

In short it sounds amazing IMO. True audio is very difficult to capture on video, this will be impossible. You don't have to remove the symposer system to try it out. Simply pop the engine lid, remove the fan cover, pop out the fans to the side and pull the hoses off the firewall adapters. Takes about 5-10 minutes, no tools required. I'm never going back so I decided to remove the whole lot as it has no more function for me..

I wonder if the process is the same on the 991.1?

From Porsche Excellence..."Turbochargers alter the intake sound of an engine much as they change the exhaust note. With the development of the turbocharged 2017 991.2 Carrera engines, Porsche engineers sought to retain as much of the character of the traditional, naturally-aspirated flat six as possible by subduing the whistling noise of the turbochargers. The intact tracts to the turbocharger inlets act as dampers to reduce the vibrations of the intake air and reduce unwanted noises. A pair of sound symposers is present to pipe intake air into the cabin; only one symposer is active above 1,800 rpm in Normal mode, while Sport or Sport Plus modes activate the second sound symposer."

The symposers are vacuum activated. You will need a constant source of vacuum to keep the activated at all times. You would have to find the main vacuum line that supplies vacuum to all vacuum operated systems and tap into that line. Or just drive it in Sport+ all the time.

I never had any issues with the way the car sounded. I love every noise this car makes. I just randomly decided to try this as I was planning to pull the rear bumper for other reasons and turned out I liked it better without the symposer. So out they came.
