Default Voluntary Emission Recall - Software Update

Anyone else get this Sport+ recall today, or am I just behind everyone else since I bought my car used? I'm guessing I don't want this...
Thanks,
Peter

Dear Mr. L,

You are receiving this email because your Porsche 911 Carrera is subject to an Emissions Recall. The PDK transmission control unit (TCU) software in your vehicle needs to be updated to further reduce exhaust emissions when the vehicle is operated in the Sport+ mode. This update is now available at your Porsche dealer at no charge to you.

The software update will take approximately 60 minutes; however, depending on the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time. Your dealer will help arrange alternative transportation if it becomes necessary.

This software update will be carried out at no charge to you and has no impact on fuel consumption values for your vehicle, drivability, performance or safety.

What should you do?

Please contact any authorized Porsche dealer to schedule an appointment to have this software update performed as soon as possible.

To find your nearest authorized Porsche dealer, visit: www.porsche.com/usa

Same here.

So, Why would we volunteer to choking our Sport Plus performance with lowering the fuel/air mix?

Well, according to the people who have done it, it does not choke the SP performance. Read the link in Post #4.

Got the same letter and I'm esitant to do it. It sounds like we are going to reduce the performances in sport plus because emission concerns...

Review this: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1275...stop-sale.html

I don’t think there is anything in performance that you would ever feel. The Sports+ functions now like a 991.2 and I have never heard/read anyone with 991.2 wanting to have their PDK programmed like a 991.1 due to reduced performance.

I will let the next owner decide if they want a watered down Sport+. 991.1's need RPM to make power. I don't want a miss daisy TCU tune designed for cars that make a lot of torque at low RPM. There is a reason Porsche decided back in 2012 to set it up the way they did, and continue with it until 2016. The only reason they are changing now in 2021 is because of government regulatory bodies, not because it is better for owners.

Any before and after dynos? All I have seen is people who thought the original S+ was too extreme, happy they can now use it on the street. That doesn't add confidence as a performance oriented owner.

I received both the email and letter. Since it is voluntary, I've decided to voluntarily not do it! My sport + works well on the track, just the way it is!
