trade in my carrera T for a new 718 GTS4.0, is it possible?
2019 T with PDK, 18000 miles, carmax offered $93000. after a year of ownership I still wish a manual car for better driving engagements. 718 GTS4.0 (without much option) would be the closest porsche fit my need. Not sure how hot is the market for 718 GTS4.0, assume I can find a new one with MSRP<100K, do you guys think dealer will do a "swap" and I don't need to pay too much out of pocket?
thanks for any comment and suggestion

I'd just go for a stripper spyder model... find a dealer with allocation

They seem to be selling for Msrp. You’ll have a hard time finding a manual 4.0. Just go and order one. That’s your best bet.

My guess is if it's on a lot right now the dealer will probably ask for higher than MSRP, and very possibly get it.
Order if you can find an allocation. I still maintain that the mid-engine cars are just as good as a 911 in their own ways; personal preference may dictate that you like the mid-engine cars more. You wouldn't be the only or the first to feel that way.

I'd say it would be good move if you aren't happy without the MT (and I don't blame you). The dealer will be happy to deal, problem will be getting an allocation (and worth the wait to have your own build, especially if you want a T-type build on the 4.0 GTS, and not some bloated dealer build). Also are you willing to sell the T now for what is likely a market top, or wait to make a dealer trade when a new build arrives, maybe taking an unexpected hit if the market changes. When I've negotiated trade ins in the past, I was able to get a fixed agreed on price for the Porsche I was turning it, not sure if that is the case in this market.

If I didn't have two small children and a need for the back seats, I'd have a 718 GTS 4.0 right now. If you're lusting for a NA manual, I think it's the best-overall car in their range right now when you take price into consideration. Obviously the new 992 GT3 / GT3 touring is an incredible machine as well, but it is considerably more money.

I test drove a 718 GTS 4.0 before buying my 991.2. I’m 6’5”, so was never quite comfortable in the smaller Boxster/Cayman (I traded a 981 Boxster for my Targa), and that was the primary reason that I went with a 911.
The 718 GTS 4.0 will definitely feel smaller and more nimble. If I was shorter, I’d have ordered it, so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with it, especially if you build it exactly as you want, which is what I would do in your shoes.
I have a 987.2 Cayman S for a track car, so was really looking more for a grand touring experience that I could comfortably drive 4-5 hours, and I’m very happy with my Targa for that reason.

After driving 911s and 718s, my preference is for the 911, they may not be as sporty as the 718 but they feel competent and a bit subdued, which makes them adaptable for all situations.
911 all the way for me.

I’ve done almost the opposite, long term 911 owner and had a 718 GT4 for six months but just couldn’t gel with it and traded it for a T.
I just missed having a 911 being completely honest. There is nothing wrong with Cayman and the 4.0 is a fantastic engine but as above I’m tall and it was cramped and in GT4 guise it was far too compromised for me. The GTS may have been better with hindsight!
The gearing is definitely long and you do have to scream it, personally it didn’t bother me but it’s a genuine trait.
