Question 991.1 and 991.2 xenon headlight compatibility

Hello!

I really want to install four-point headlights to my 991.1 carerra. I think the measures are exactly the same: 991.1 and 991.2 xenon headlights.

so I was wondering if I install 991.2 xenon headlights onto my 991.1, will they work without any ECU tune?

Default DIY

Ok so here is a quick DIY. There might be some gaps because I kept forgetting to stop to take pics. Also, i skipped the steps of removing the headlight because there are instructions for that all over the internet. DIY starts with headlights removed. You'll also need to remove the bumper. Once you install the 991.2 headlights, you will now need to remove the bumper anytime you want to remove the headlights.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

I put 991.2 headlights on my 991.1. The headlights mount and plug up fine. However to get the 4 point DRL to work, you’ll have to tap into the bumper DRL’s and wire it up to one of the empty pin/slots on the headlight plug. There is a slot the matches up to the pin on the headlight for the DRLs. I actually have to do them over sometime next week. I’ll try to take some pics of the process.

Interesting thread. I don't know much about this, and would be curious to learn from anyone who does—but my "problem" is a bit different: I ordered PLDS in my 991.2, which comes with black upper housings under the lenses. Love the swiveling lights, but wish there had been a way to get the silver housings on a very dark car.

One of those things literally no one talks about, but I dig the dark housings on lighter cars, and the lighter housings on (most) dark cars. I wonder if there's a way to switch them…

Taking off the bumper is not too bad and easier if you take off the front wheels and front wheel well liners. There are yt vids.

No. That looks like the plug from the leveling module. There are 2 silver modules on the headlights. One is the HID ballast and one is for the leveling. Both of them swap over to the 991.2 headlight. See example below

For the DRL, The plug you have to tap into is the plug on your bumper lights and then you connect it to the plug that powers the headlight. (The connector from your car to the headlight)

I took the above pics from another thread. But I’ll take pics of what I actually did in the next few days.

Default Headlight conversion worked!

Thanks so much for the write up! For me with base headlights (no PDLS) I only needed to tap the larger pin 10 from the yellow with the blue striped wire.

Added a switch in the extra 3rd hole on each side where the old 991.1 bracket access was. Can toggle the bumper DRL on and off. (I did straighten it out after I noticed from the picture that it was crooked!!!)

Fits the oval hole perfectly. In stock at Advance Auto Parts.

Nice job! Glad it worked out.
