Default Lug Nut Question?

Hi all,

I'm looking to install studs and would need to order lug nuts as well. I have the option to go with ball or cone seats for my custom wheels (Litespeed).

Which style are the stock lug bolts? I may have to change back and forth between wheels at some point in time and don't want to have to get two different lug nuts.

+1 for Ball seats as OEM. I would stick with OEM in case you ever want to use the OEM lugs or need to resell the wheels in the future.

Be careful which studs you get. I got Bilstein from ECS and two of them sheared off and had to drill them out. They said they had some heat treating problems.
Getting a new set from BGB that is used in NASCAR and IMSA. Made by MSI Racing Products

^ Thanks!
Yes, I have extensive experience with studs and we only get MSI. Been running them for years on our race car without any problems.

I went to these:
H&R Quick-Safe studs M 14 X 1.5 X 40mm. Part # 1454005

Here's more than enough reading from a while back:

I am planning on getting studs very soon as I have been swapping wheels quite a bit. Can anyone confirm that Tarrett sells the MSI studs or point me in a good direction to buy them? I recall that this was the case but would be great to know for sure. I also recall another thread that specified the 95lb torque but in mhawk's thread link, many say 118lbs is better. Thoughts?

BGB in Florida has them. The torque on the nuts is 95 or 93.

Tarrett studs call for 90-95lbs, 118 is for your stock lug nuts.

Yup - several on the GT3 thread referenced above mentioned that a higher torque was safer. I will follow the manufacture recommendations but their argument was interesting.

I placed the orders for the MSI wheel studs from Tarrett and forged titanium nuts from Augment Wheels.

I ran MSI studs and Blox titanium lug nuts for 10 years on my BMW without incident. I changed the studs once during that timeframe, but they never missed a beat with lots of track time.
