Default Rate my Deal | 2014 991.1 4S / 22K Miles / $74K?

I've been shopping the 911 market for a bit (had Boxsters in the past). I've pursued a few private party deals on base cabs, but saw this guy come up on Carmax and reserved it.

I don't think I'm crazy: is this a pretty good deal for this type of mileage? Of course I wish it was a bit more optioned; my wife requires the PDK to drive the car.

I offer my 2 cents knowing that Carmax has a 5 day return policy and that if my opinion makes you doubt your purchase you can still back out.
Most important thing to remember is to not let yourself get target fixated on a car. Buying the right car with the right options and for the righty money can only be done during this phase of decision making.

so.. lets remember that you solicited this opinion and that I mean no offense by it.

Firstly, we are in kind of a 991.1 Bubble and 991.1 prices are exaggerated by factors like low inventory and N/A fanatics hanging on to them (if this last factor triggers you, the reader and not OP, dont clutter this thread with N/A vs turbo BS, just send me a PM).

The same car a year ago, with covid uncertainty and plenty of inventory, was low $60s and would have even been CPO (and I am also talking coupes which demand higher pricing).. same yr and mileage. So you have to decide if you are willing to wait and see if prices come back down or if you want your candy Now You have also not factored in $5500-ish for a decent warranty (by Carmax or others)

Also, at that current price point that you have agreed to pay, I would want full leather, 18 way seats, sport design package or at least steering wheel etc. Standard interiors have door trim issues, they can glare in sun and at that price point I expect to have that level of luxury and quality.

Lastly, convertibles do not hold their value over time as much as coupes, so keep that factor in mind before you go $80K into a sports car, if you plan to keep this for a long time this last factor is not as important.

I am sure others can chime in with other or differ nets points as well

Good luck and enjoy in good health, whatever you decide.

My feeling isn't hurt at all! (I use to work for Porsche Auto Finance...). I'm waiting to hear from Carmax to send them $1,000 for the shipping or wait longer to see if the bubble bursts post stop-sale....

I hear you on the N/A fanatics vs. Turbo blood letting. I'm not interested in that (my 2 cents: the N/A probably sounds nicer, I'm willing to gamble it is a plus on values).

I'm out in Chicago and you could proably shop a better coupe deal, but cab is a requirement too.

I have not had my eyeballs on the market watching the 991.1 bubble come and go! Carmax warranty 5 years / 75K, $500 deductible is ~$2600 (I have no idea how they make money at that rate warrantee'ing a 911).

The PDK requirement is making it hard; most PDK 991.1 aren't super optioned up since they weren't bought by super enthusiasts. The other element I am seeing is you can find better deals on more "custom" color selections (ie. weird combos) which is kind of a turn off.

This purchase is a bit more of a family car... If it were just my garage queen, 911 Turbo S coupe all the way and rip the bandaid off...

Price seems in-line with the current market, and it's Carmax, so if you hate it or get buyer's remorse, you can return it! The fact is that these cars are selling quickly. I had a couple of really nice cars sell out from right under my nose because I was thinking I could get a better deal, or a more perfect spec might come along, yada, yada, yada... 911's have so many configs, it's hard to get every option you want on a car that has the right mileage, age, color, and at a price that works you. Official dealer pricing seems to super-inflated (at least it is here in SoCal).

I say this - If the car meets your non-dealbreaker desired specs, condition and mileage, then go for it because if you don't buy it, someone else will.

I feel like that a bit too! Finding PDK, Cab, Sport Design, Sport Exhaust (this is ideal build for cost for me), is almost impossible in the market.

I do value the Carmax waranty and return policy too vs. a private sale. (There's a really good low mileage 2012 991.1 on AutoTrader. Seller is super legit, but it's a huge pain with Covid if you can't go out and see the car, take it for a PPI, and then have to close the deal. He wants 63k, base cab, PDK, Sport Exhaust...).

couple of things

Good to know I am talking to a seasoned enthusiast..Agree with Carmax warranty price, holicrap thats cheap, I cant agree on PDK not being super optioned. Spend some time here and you will see pdk cars with all kinds of options.(majority of them actually)
Manuals are very hard to find and sell at premium regardless of options.
if you like it the way it is, thats all that matters
Good luck and keep us posted

https://www.parkplace.com/used/Porsc...rader_listings

---

I would scoop this one up if it were just me... Ticks all the boxes on the options. Similar price. But... require the PDK as part of the package, and it's a manual.

----

I would say on just looking around AutoTrader, all of the PDK's I'm seeing are usually as base as can be and 40k to 50k miles.

(I'm not quite certain of the all wheel drive on a 911... wouldn't be an option I'd buy!).

Always pops! But the fun is owning the car, not the return investment!

These cars are all about smiles per mile!

Yeah, the stop sale is a major bummer. My local dealership has 991.1 C4S spec'd close to my desired build (only missing PSE) and the price is considerably higher than what you have there. It will be CPO though... once they can sell the darn thing. lol

I almost always buy CPOs from the official dealers too. I've never bought a car from Carmax, but they seem like a good option in the 911 market. I think they do actually pay on warranty claims, so we'll find out if we end up buying the car.

My favorite dealer out where I live:

https://barrington.porschedealer.com...CD2A90BS773410

If this were in black, I'd probably buy it for 100k and just let it ride. That's kind of like checking off a bucket list item with 911 Turbo S.

There is a hideous $95k / 2011 Turbo S at a Toyota dealership around me. Price is good, has 8k miles (I think the owner of the dealership owned the car for the last 9 years... it got serviced at the Toyota dealer...) but it's got a god awful white / black color combo. I may take my wife to go drive it when this newer one comes in for $73k.
