Default Essex AP Rotors + Giro Disc Stud Kit - Installed

Picked up my car last year and got right back into tracking the car. I was running Pagid RS29 and Castrol SRF fluid, and very happy with the setup on the 4 track days that I took it on.

I have always been fond of the AP Racing 2pc rotors. Love the black hats and unique style of the J hooks, no too mention the value they provide. They should long outlast the original rotors and when the rotors are shot, I can pick up brand new rings and swap them onto the hats. Win!

However, the goal is to maximize braking performance, and if you look at the history of AP Racing, you can see they build some amazing braking kits. The new rotors are 350mm vs the stock 330mm. While not a big change in size at all, they will excel at everything especially cooling and longevity. Even though they are larger, they do weigh less. Average weight loss was about 1lb per corner. You can see in the photos of the back side where rotor shield is that they are a little oversize now,

I worked with Clark from Apex Performance and he helped me out with the rotor upgrade. The rear rotor kit comes with a caliper spacer and longer bolts. This is required for clearance.

Since the brake caliper must come off for pads changes, I decided on the Giro Disc stud kit. This will prevent the wear of the wheel carrier from repeatedly removing the caliper bolts. It also makes it way easier to reinstall the caliper, not to mention the new spacer on the rear can sit on the stud. Win win there!

BCS-03 Rear (longer required with spacer)

Can't wait to give this setup a go at the track this season.

If you have any questions please let me know

Looks awesome-love that you put the weight! What size rotors did you end up going with-380 up front and 350 in the rear?

Average 1 lb of unsprung weight doesn't seem like a lot but it matters, this is on my to-do list

looks great

Looks good. Interestingly, you appear to have a smaller gap on your rears than I do. While I have the base vs your GTS, the rears are exactly the same except for the color. Has me wondering if I was shipped incorrect sized spacers?

What length were your stud kids? Again, I was sent the same for both front and rear - 95mm I believe.

Great info! Quick question, are you driving a 991.1 or.2? Every time I look up cross reference sheets on the stud kit it only shows 991.1 GTS and nothing for a 991.2. Just wondering if they are 100% the same studs as a 991.2S

I think I see turbo hardware in his pics so a .2. FWIW I am also driving a 991.2. Call Apex to discuss stud kits - the online info can be very confusing.

Check out this guide.

https://apexperformance.net/girodisc-caliper-studs/

I will say the fitment is perfect. The rear wouldnt have worked with shorter studs given the size of the spacer. So it sticks out a little bit as you can see in the photos. The front is almost spot on, little less threads showing from what I recall.

I have a 991.2 GTS

Only the rear AP Racing rotors required a spacer on my .2 GTS, and I can see why. The pads and caliper would have been touching the rear hat on the new rotor. Wouldnt have fit.

On the fronts they were good as is. I was assuming both needed spacers or possibly just the rear. However after getting it and reviewing it, it all makes sense. Just the rear needed spacers and only rear needed longer studs.

350mm front and rear, I dont think 380mm rotors are available for the calipers I have. I know other companies make conversions for the 380mm up front. I dont think AP Racing / Essex do.

380mm wouldnt fit my 19" BBS wheels though. Not without modification from what I understand. Then it would be too close for comfort. Look at all the guys getting rocks stuck on the PCCB setups and damaging the caliper/wheels.

Thanks for your very informative reply on my other thread. I was already sold but once I read more about the rotors I just felt even better about my decision!
