Hello RL, Lately I’ve been playing around with the shift **** in my 911. I haven’t seen or found anything that is aesthetically pleasing (in my mind at least) to the eye. The OEM **** is great but want something more. Looking for input/ideas/links from those that have a non OEM shift ****.
I’ve taken my **** apart many times and thought about what I could do to make it my own. Originally I decided to leave it and that was fine for a while but again I came back to it and I decided to fill in the shift pattern with a matte red paint. And that turned out pretty good. Recently I decided it was time to wrap it in a matte carbon. I don’t like the glossy finishes and so I wrapped the **** trim in 2x2 weave carbon. This will be temporary as I’d love to actually have a real carbon shifter. I am aware of the OE 911R and DB carbon shifter but honestly that’s just not different enough to justify $900 on really two pieces of plastic trim.
Here is a few pictures of my shift **** ‘phases’
I can't be the only one that isn't a huge fan of the options us MT Porsche owners have!
I think both options look nice. If you have other carbon pieces that the carbon shifter look can tie into, i think that would look great. If it’s just a single cf part, I’d go back to the first iteration.
FF1 in black with yellow. Numeric shifter under.
The yellow is very close to the PCCB caliper, but I’m feeling distinctly under-coordinated compared to Bob.
I like your thinking and if I didn't have a factory optioned CF shift ****, I'd be going for a FF Delrin shift **** with yellow shift pattern.
Over the years, I've had a ton of aftermarket shift ***** on various cars. The LAST thing I would ever get again is aluminum. I had put a beautiful weighted aluminum shift **** in my C5 Corvette and it felt wonderful going through the gears.
I made the mistake of jumping into the car on a hot summer day, put my hand on the shifter to move it to neutral to start the car and almost branded my hand with the shift pattern of the extremely hot shift ****! I couldn't touch it for a while with the air con blasting to try to cool it down.
I ended up having to make a cloth sleeve for it.
Now, I've been exposed to the beauty of Delrin. Looks cool, feels good and never gets hot. I first put a Jaffster in my BMW and loved it. We put one in our race car and I put one in my GTI as well. Love every second of it.
No, it doesn't have the feel of aluminum, but it's so much more usable without having to worry about burning my hand.
Also, since you have a manual - you've got to get a Numeric shifter and cables. I just had one installed in my car and it is hands down the best mod I've done so far. The feel of the shifter and the action is night and day better than stock.
I'm going to write a full review soon. I also have the Rennline race mats. It makes moving about the pedals much easier.
Thanks everyone for the FF **** suggestions. I have seen that but I feel they don't look right. The base of the shifter is too long looking and feel the OEM shifter looks much better. The Numeric shifter/cables are also on my short list of things to do.
Does anyone know of or have a shifter similar to the BMW M performance one:

Yeah, they have it in the 991.2 section. If really interested, I'd contact them to see if it does have the 7-speed shift pattern. More than likely it will since no one is going to pay that much for something that's incorrect.
They do have an alcantara version as well (shown in 6-speed pattern as well LOL!) https://shop.db-carbon-interieur.de/...s/1621CA2-0001

What I cant get over is that youre paying $1k for just the plastic trim that snaps in the ****, if it was a completely different design I can see the justified cost.
