Good afternoon, everyone! I'm in my first few weeks of 991 ownership and loving it so far!! My only annoyance right now is in intermittent "whistling" that is sometimes present and coming from the sunroof at highway speeds. I'm assuming its maybe weatherstripping failing or something similar? Wanted to see if anyone else experienced and rectified this before I take it in.
Can't take a picture of a noise but here's a picture of the car anyway! TIA!
i also have some sort of whistling noise but i think its coming form somewhere around the mirror/windshield area (sunroof and all windows closed). Year and a half and i still cant figure it out.
You could try sealing up the seams of the sunroof with painters tape and then seeing if it still makes the whistling noise. You're either going to confirm your suspicions or eliminate one possible root cause.
All I know is, I wish "Sunroof Delete" was a more prevalent option... my 996 had a sunroof and it was one of the main reasons I sold the car, was going to have to replace the whole assembly. Was noisy, leaky, rattled, whistled, it was such a pain.
Might not help your specific issue, but I resorted to applying felt tape around the underside of the roof panel on all 4 edges. Solved 99% of my squeaks, rattles and noises.
Can confirm this noise. But only at speeds above 270 km/h (168 mph) It sounds like the wind gets trapped in a box and tries to escape. Can't discribe it better.
Seems like all 991s with sunroofs have that issue, since it got discussed before. Can't find the thread. Might have been on a german Porsche Forum (PFF) since you guys in the US usually don't reach those speeds very often *cough*
I can live with it and know, that I go very fast, when I hear the noise.
