I don't see too many anthracite brown 991's and wonder why. The Mocha Brown from many years ago wasn't popular either but to my eye is appealing. Anthracite is pretty rare but would you select it?
No, it is not just an exciting color to me albeit I like bright colors! They usually have focus groups to decide on colors so it would seem that they had some interest in it but I am not sure why someone would choose it over all the other choices.
My daily drivers are usually low key colors; black, silver or grey. Brown wouldn’t be my thing even in a DD. A sports car to me has to be a bright fun color which is Carmine Red currently!
I bought a Mahogany Metallic Macan S for my wife back in 2018. Love the color and you don’t see it often (haven’t seen on since). Maybe it’s a color for an SUV and not a 911....but I wouldn’t mind the GT3 in brown. It’s still a 911 and a GT3 after all!
Hated brown 911s when I was young. Equated "brown 911s" to Sepia 911s.
Somewhere in my 20s and 30s, I started to like Copper Brown Metallic/Cork 911 SCs. From there gained an appreciation for a number of browns. Also loved the way a 997 Carrera in Macadamia I had as a test car went through the world. Subtle, not seen by most. Friendly, for the few who did spot it. A prompter of conversations with more interesting/curious/friendly people than most Porsches tended to beif they weren't off-putting to people. But, mainly, it just went through the Bay Area unnoticed, and I liked that about it.
Anthracite Brown was seriously underrated on the 991. It ain't gonna be for everyone, but I think it's sophisticated and elegant. Saw it at the introduction, where it was similar to Agate Gray (which has some brown in it) and wondered if it would sell. It didn't. It was predictably discontinued, but I love it and I might not be driving a PTS 991.2 had it still been available.
Still can't get into Sepia, however. Bruce Anderson had it right when he called it "Sale-Proof Brown"
To each it’s own I love mine from the moment I saw it in the dealer showroom it’s different and depending on the light the color changes. It’s also a sunroof delete which is what I was looking for. The interior is espresso natural leather.
I ordered a Mahogany 13 Boxster S and an Anthracite 15 TT. I was so-so on Mahogany after a while but would order another Anthracite car in a heartbeat. It was a beautiful color to my eye; I would probably still be driving it if it had a MT.
