Default Tesla Assessed my 2019 Carrera GTS Coupe at $75k

Was considering consolidating down to one car and trading my Ford Fusion Sport daily driver and my 2019 911 Carrera GTS and getting a new Tesla Model S Performance. Tesla came back with $75k for trade in. KBB on the car is $109k ($105k-$113k). My GTS coupe was $146k new in December of 2018. It’s silver, full alcantara, 7MT, glass roof, PDCC, RAS, SPASM, Bose, Premium Pkg, etc. Clean and garaged. I assumed they’d be $5k or even $10k different but come on, $35k? Screw Tesla. I’d consider a Taycan but I don’t want a stripper 4S, and trying to get into something under $110k.

You sound surprised a manufacturer/dealer low balled your trade?

Happens all the time, even at a Porsche dealership. Here’s the deal, they do want to sell you a new car, they don’t really want to deal with your old one unless there is an easy upside flip and they have ample room in the price to ensure they are not stuck with it. (even more so at another brand).

You want retail, sell privately. You want quick and easy, you are going to get lowball wholesale.

Sounds about right. I also would think Tesla is just going to auction it off. They wouldn't try and sell it on their lot. Maybe they would be willing to come up to $80k or discount the Tesla. They would be looking to make $10k on a $50k car, so on a $100k car, they will be trying to make even more.

Pretty much 100% chance that they will auction it - my C2S was previously owned by someone who bought a Tesla and traded it in (title trace showed Tesla). The dealer I got it from purchased it from Tesla via auction.

Way too low of a value for that car. You could get $10-15k more on trade-in at other dealers.

I don’t expect retail. Retail would be $120k+. I want a fair trade. KBB trade value is $110k. Trading a car at $110k gives the buyer the opportunity to resell it for a $10k profit. I used to sell cars.

Agreed. KBB TRADE is between $105k and $113k. Go check out cars.com and Autotrader.com. There are very few 2019 Carrera GTS in the country for sale, and those that are, new, around $130k-$150k+. Used, the least expensive is $117k and it’s a strippy car.

Umm, no, it doesn’t sound about right. Even at auction, it’s going to bring well over $100k. $75k is ridiculous. KBB Trade is between $105k and $113k.

Tesla absolutely would be selling the car via auction. They don't have a traditional manufacturer/dealer network and they don't maintain used vehicle inventories from other manufacturers.

That said, I will be taking delivery of my third Tesla next weekend (Model S P100D, Model X Long Range and incoming Model 3 Performance). The acceleration, charging network and convenience of Autopilot are awesome and once you get used to life with an electric car and living within the Tesla ecosystem, you may not want to go back.

I would have loved to give them my business and buy a Model S Performance but not for $30k+ below trade value. That might be chump change for you, and congratulations on your success, but $30k + isn’t chump change for me. I’ve been offered $108k for a trade just three weeks ago on another car.

I may not be as successful as you think... My Tesla's are leases. The tech is advancing too quickly to make a long term commitment to electric car ownership.

That said, why not just sell you Porsche private party and use the $$ to buying/leasing a Tesla?

Not saying you should take that offer, just saying for Tesla, that sounds right. It is how they are going to make a large portion of their money. I wouldn't take that offer as $5k is a lot of money to me, so I would end up consigning it with a dealer like Merit Partners, or your local dealer, or sell it directly to your local dealer. Get $100k for it and move on.

You may know about these websites already, but there are some very useful sites that use Tesla's API data to find cars that are hidden from normal inventory lists. You may be able to find a demo or CPO car that is quite a bit cheaper than ordering from the factory.

This one is my favorite:
https://tesla-info.com/

This one is second best, imo:
