Lots of opinions but here's a few facts:

1) Targas hold their resale value much better than the Cabriolets, even though the new MSRP prices are the same. Big Advantage for the Targa

2) The most noise is due to the rear tires, its not going to matter much on which model you select. Dynamat over the top of the rear fenderwells will go more to quiet the car than choice of top.

3) The Cab is really a 3-panel magnesium hardtop covered with fabric.

4) Targa has to be a a full stop to put the top up or down, the Cab can do so at speeds up to 30 mph or so.

5) Cabs can have seam separations where sewn, and tops eventually need to be replaced over time ($ 6K).

With the SmartTop on my Targa I do not have to be stopped when opening/closing the top as it works up to about 10 mph. When I enter my parking garage I use the one touch feature to start the closing process as I continue to my spot and by the time I reach it the top is stowed and ready for me to back in.

#2 is opinion and not fact...it's a wind noise, but the wind isn't entering the cab. If it was tire noise I would hear when the top is up and the Windows down, but that's not the case

I am not a cab fan. I didn’t even consider a targa when I first started looking for my 911 but when a good deal came up on one I went ahead with it. I get compliments everywhere I go.

[QUOTE=Ksdaoski;16630935]it’s a leather to sample black, but it looks black! Keadog above is the original owner and ordered it.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1012...-in-black.html

To that point the bar is a 12-18” behind your head, and unless you’re an owl, you never see it or sense it. I do wish the top would operate while moving, even coasting to a red light.

That is hilarious. The car has a SmartTOP - I think it should
work up to about 4mph. It was installed before I took delivery in 07/17 - maybe there's an update/patch if it doesn't work for you? I always came to a stop as I was fearful of that big hunk of glass swinging up and down, so I never tried it moving. Big plus for the cab IMO.

That leather to sample Natural Black added months to production time.

I'm thinking fo adding the Numeric to this car. And a Soul cat back. I've lost quite a bit of $ serially trading, but I think I might keep this one for a while...

I usually put my top down before I leave and even so it only takes less than 30 seconds so I would not consider that a big plus for a Cab. And my SmartTop works up to about 10 mph, which is plenty enough, and there are no problems moving the "big hunk of glass" everywhere but in the US, due to regulations of course.

So basically, the conclusion of this thread is:

you need a Targa 😎

Yeah I need to try and check the settings to see if it's programmed for 4mph. That being said 4mph is slow! Lol. Hard to keep it that low! Just put it up during a stop light.... Took about 5 seconds to long, luckily no one came up being me. But gave the cars around me a good show!
i do use the 3 unlocks for autotop open.

I was driving my Cab last evening with my wife in the passenger seat and she got chilly. We rasied the wind deflector and it makes a very big difference in airflow, buffetting and noise with top down. I thought it was a useful datapoint to this thread. The Cab has a lot of 'range' of openness from full top and windows down to top down, windows and deflector up. The interior finish on the top is excellent, to me it does not feel like an old school 'vert at all with the top up. The rear window is a decent size so visibility isn't bad (I don't have LCA, but it is a good option for the cabrios).

Edit: And +100 for the smartop module. Great usability improvement.

I always vote Convertible!

I vote for Cabs

you’re prob right about the noise level in the cab Being better. That being said, I find the cab roofs to look terrible after a few km’s of usage. I don’t know if it’s because the roofs are opened wet or left open too long, but all the 991 cabs I see have horrible creases on the roofs, the car looks old when they are practically new.

Cabs rule though!
