Antigravity Lithium in a 991.1 - Is It Possible?
#31
Well the good news is, I'm in So Cal so the weather shouldn't be a problem. With that said, "50 degrees" doesn't sound that cold and we do occasionally get that in the morning. So, still a bit concerning. Are both of you 991.1 or .2 cars? Would the electronics monitoring improved?

This cold issue is interesting. Lithium batteries in cameras and electronics are way better than normal batteries. Interesting to see that lithium batteries in car in cold temps do not perform well. Hopefully they sort you out.

The battery itself performs fine. It's something to do with how this particular Porsche wants to charge it. The car wants to overcharge it, so the battery's self protection kicks in. I had this exact same battery in my 2011 Cayman S and it was always fine with no error codes.

We tested for this for and found basically no cars going over the 15v limit in most every brand we tested, though obviously we don't test every car made. We also know that most all new Car come with AGM batteries and those are also not supposed to be charged over 15v. So we set our over-charge protections for above 15v. Additionally we knew that all modern Cars do in fact raise the voltage during winter when the ECMs and Alternators sense colder air that they will raise the charging voltage to compensate for the fact that Lead/Acid Batteries require a higher voltage to charge when cold... we did not forcast some Porsches going into the 15.4 and as high as 15.7v range during the colder temps. And the fact is it appears only SOME of the Cars go into this range. So when they do go above 15.2v at any time our battery knocks down the voltage which means our batteries voltages will flutter when the protections are kicking in. So we found since the car is in fact seeing a voltage that is fluttering as the protections do thier thing, the flags will occur. So the car thinks the voltage is not stable, and if it occurs even for a second the flags will go on. Its rare and I think in about 7-8 cars so far... but being we've sold thousands now, So it sort of an anomoly and we've only see it in a few Porsches that take the voltage into the mid 15v range.
Regardless, we changed some setting in the BMS and think we have it licked... and since it was rare we are not too concerned but didn't want it to even come up again so we are trying some stuff so it can't occur even if the voltage goes high in a Car.

@Antigravity Thanks for chiming in. It's these silly niggles that always tend to resonate when they come up. Hopefully, your new fix works for the very rare exceptions that have come up and I hope it works out specifically for @Wolpertinger .

About 7 to 8 people got the flags on their Porsches, we've sold roughly 3700 of the Wireless RE-START models in the last year, but not just to Porsches... but that still means that our percentage of any problem like this is 1 tenth of one percent. And it is not due to the battery programming but rather the Porsche issue of going high in voltage, in fact higher than most every other car on the market. So the odds of it working correctly are 99% in owners favor. While I'm disappointed it hasn't worked for everyone perfectly I am not remotely considering it an "issue that doesn't make it worth it". The battery is absolutely within is perfect parameters for safe operation and operating fine in 99% of the cars. The Porsche is going high in voltage, and we are now considering that.

I almost regret starting this thread because it might scare people away from what is a really great battery. The company is standing behind its product and making every effort to solve this issue with me.

I took a nice drive today and the MFD battery voltage was consistently at 14.7 at 65*F.
