Default 991 Without A Sunroof

Saw a nice 2012 991 listed at a Porsche dealer. Coupe without a sunroof. Always figured if I didn’t get a Cab, I would want a sunroof.

Guys who don’t have one - wish you did?

Guys who have one - do you use it and is it a must have for you?

Probably not a deal breaker, but wanted to what see you guys thought.

I've had both and IMO a sunroof is just a source of creaks, rattles and headaches. Rarely opened mine and prefer without. YMMV especially in sunny SoCal.

My first 991 did not have a sunroof - I actually didn't want one and as a result didn't even think about it. My current 991 came with a glass sunroof - I actually thought of it as a 'con' to the spec but now that I have it - I love the option of being able to open it up.

As much as I love the option to open up the sunroof, If I was to get another car - I don't think it would be a must have for me.

I think it is one of those things that if you have it you will use it - if you don't - you just forget that you don't have it. You can still roll the windows down!

I like the glass roof. I think the black top looks better than a body colored top. I personally would not get one without it. Ive had zero issues with mine in two 991.2's Ive owned.

Get the options that matter. Because you will regret not getting it down the road real soon if you ask me. Dont settle OP! = )

If you planned on getting one with a sunroof don't change your mind as there are plenty of cars out there that have them, and if don;t get one with it you will regret it - don't settle!

I have had 3 991s, all with sunroofs, and NONE of them squeaked or made any other sounds.

I'm not a sunroof fan for most cars and I don't really use them in my other cars. But in my 911, I open it up on a nice day to let the sunshine in and listen to that beautiful flat six engine.

I had 3 Porsches before current 991 and all of them equipped with sunroof. Even though I like sunroof and used quite a bit when I ordered 991 I decided omit it. I'm keeping current 991 for awhile and minimize the headache mainly associate with rattle or squeak. My 928 and 993 sunroof rattled and drove me nuts. After long years of ownership of older generation cars sunroof seals didn't held up that well and those seals are pain in the *** to replace. Also IMO 991 looks bit out of shape when sunroof is opened or titled.

I ordered my CT without it and have no regrets. I've had sunroofs in my 06 CS, my Macans and my 993 and rarely, if ever, opened them. Now with the cabs I've had, that a different story and never liked driving them without the tops down.

Thats just me. I don't like Cabs or sunroof. To me it adds weight at the worst possible position, and it is a source of creaks and rattles and leaks. I searched a long time with no luck trying to find one without the sunroof in the used market.

Nope, sunroof is pretty useless to me. IMO, if you want an open top experience, buy a convertible or targa. To me, it just adds weight in the wrong part of the car.

Love my glass roof. Makes the car feel very open and airy (in a good way). Never had any issue with it.

To me the biggest benefit of the sunroof is a functional one. With the windows rolled down the 991s have HORRIBLE buffeting in the cabin. You have to buy the (kinda tacky) winglets to put on the window triangle to lessen it. With a sunroof all you have to do is crack it. No more eardrum-shattering buffeting.

If you want a stiffer body and chassis, no sunroof or cab. Simple!

I bought CPO a couple years ago and it has a sunroof. I live in FL and NEVER open it. It's a huge source of squeeks and rattles and is the ONE THING I don't like about my car. Not enough to ditch it, but I would have been happier without one.
