Default 991.2 Carrera T vs. Carrera S

Hi everyone. I am deciding between picking up a 991.2 Carrera T or a 991.2 Carrera S and I wanted to make sure I fully understood the differences between the two models (assuming similar options such as the 10mm lower ride height, rear-wheel steer, etc.). Here are the differences that I know of:
  • Horsepower - Carrera S has 420 vs. Carrera T at 370
  • Weight - Minimal (~11 lbs) but Carrera T saves weight on 1) less sound insulation 2) fabric door pulls and 3) lightweight glass
  • Brakes - Carrera S has 6 piston front brakes vs. Carrera T has 4 piston front brakes. Rear brakes are the same
  • Manual Transmission
    • Carrera T has a short shifter. Is this different than the Carrera S?
    • Carrera T has a mechanical limited slip rear differential. Is this different than the Carrera S?
    • I know the Carrera T has a different final drive ratio than the Base but is this different than the Carrera S?

Anything else that I am missing? Thanks so much guys. Really appreciate the help.

Seems like the short shifter is unique to the T and not available on the S. Others can confirm.

Thought its was just a standard SSK that is an option on others?

Go with the S...more power is better than a little shorter shifter! And there are a lot more Ts on the lots than Ss for a reason.

I'm pretty sure, if you are inclined to spend some money you can add a short shifter to the S. However, the final drive on the T may make the shifting more fun for a street car. Lightweight glass cars don't have a rear window defroster, if that is important to you.

There are a lot of style differences for people who went with the T interior package. Deviated stitching, fabric seats ( if not buckets)...err...no back seats if buckets. Lot of little things that may be important ( or not) to a buyer.

Looks like you've done your homework. As always, test drive both and go from there. Do a search on this forum as this has been debated before. I've looked at both and they are both great 911s in their own right. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the S. I like creature comforts along with more power. First world problems.

Do those Ts on the lots have pdk or manual?

It is 11lbs different than a base Carrera with no options. With similar options it is ~ 50lbs lighter than a base Carrera.
My car is right at 3095lbs with no RWS. I had zero options as that is how I wanted it.
T comes with PSE, MECHANICAL REAR DIFFERENTIAL, special interior cloth/straps, exterior details, glorious short-shifter, SPASM, different ratio, more noise, paired with a base engine that is unbelievably fun and perfectly powered.

If that sounds appealing then you will love it. It was a perfect recipe for what I wanted in a 911.
Basic, no frills, and the lightest 991.2 available. I have no need for more power, as the T is extremely fast and the base engine is staggeringly enjoyable.

I drove a 911 S, 718 GTS, 911 T, & 911 S at the LA PEC over three occasions and The T was an obvious choice for me. With the 718 GTS being my second favorite.

Obviously certain people feel differently and they usually show up in T thread to bash it as a basic Carrera, but w/o knowing that is part of the appeal, they just don't see it.
Go drive a base Carrera and see for yourself how great the engine is....then ask if the above options in addition would appeal to you.

You must have a T, and a complex, which seems to come with owning one. I like all 911s but compared to the S I think that is a better option for most.

Bob, no worries, you are very helpful forum member, but I wanted to give the OP my perspective as a T owner.
The T has certain details that make it incredibly appealing to some.
I am under no illusion that it is the right car for everyone. Fair?

Fair enough, but I take it you have seen the threads, as I have, where there is a lot of back & forth about the Ts. I am not taking sides since there are valid points from both sides but by the same token they are different cars. Before I bought my car I drove a few of each kind I was considering before I decided and everyone should do the same before posting here.

Let's get this straight, whatever 911 you own and enjoy, it's the right one. Part of the fun is the search and it's good to listen to varying views.

Even broader, whatever Porsche you own and like is right as well.

Enjoy the ride.

Before my GT3T I had a 2017 base C2. That engine with smaller faster spooling turbos is actually really fun. I saw very little differences between the base and the S, if anything I preferred the base.

It’s interesting how polarizing the T is on the forums. What does it mean? If I could trade it for any 911 it would be for a GT3T. That, however, is out of my budget. I love my car. I would also love an S, or a Targa, or a GT4. I’d have one of each if I could! P-car *****, I am.
