Thanks again for your offer
I would also like a hard copy.

I just bought a copy. I hear there's an Eastern country that's printing the hardcopy version as I type.

I'm kidding ... about the latter sentence.

I am not a e-book person, so I guess I will not be buying or reading this book. I would be willing to pay significantly more than $20 for a hard copy if it were available.

Hi guys, we get the hardcopy angle and appreciate the feedback, but it is currently digital only and the beauty of trying this at Xmas is you can ask for it as a gift from a family member (try the one who usually buys you socks, underpants or aftershave ) so you get it free and as there are no newspapers on Xmas day BobZ you can can take your ipad into the "reading room" instead and enjoy a Porschetastic Xmas.

Count me in for hard copy also. I get your dedication to e-pubilshing. Have you done any feasibility and cost analysis for printing on paper? Based on a quick look at some vanity printers, a full color 6x9 inch soft cover book with 250 pages would cost $20 to $30 each, in a run of a few hundred. Of course you have to add your other costs and profit to that.

So to all those that said they would buy a hard copy, how much would you pay? Up to $30 would be a no-brainer for me. Up to $40, probably. Approaching $50--maybe not.

Thanks for your post bkranz, we do fully appreciate the demand for a physical printed copy of the guide. We have previously (and very successfully) produced our Aston Martin guide (for example) in print form, but in honesty we are only a small specialist set-up and although we sold thousands of books over a period of time (due to the quality content, detail and accuracy) it became a handful managing print (volume, quality and on time delivery), stock levels and shipping worldwide, with time consuming queries when airmail could cause extended delivery times. We were (ironically for this thread) also being chased all the time to produce a digital version, so many buyers were demanding the convenience and benefits of a digital copy. Serious ill health affecting a key team member (my wife!) was the final thing that made us decide to try digital and it proved very popular, so we moved to become fully digital. That way everyone worldwide could get instant delivery and enjoy the same layout, images, great content as a printed version.

We appreciate it has negatives compared to a paper version and clearly many still want a physical guide, we get that and fully understand why you would want a printed book. But we still hope print fans will give it a try as it also has other positives - instant delivery - use it on multiple devices at the same time (phone tablet and computer) - pinch and zoom into images and text - search the whole guide for key words (ie PDK, Powerkit, PCM, etc) and you can also make notes on each page, plus bookmark pages of interest for ease of finding again. Thanks for at least trying it alongside your printed library and we will let print fans know if we do find a way to go printed again.

May I also take the opportunity to again wish you all a fabulous Xmas and a happy, healthy, prosperous and Porsche filled 2020

I am going to assume you know they do book printing on demand for hard cover. Why can't that be an option?

Hi Catharpin, thanks for your post, yes we are aware of print on demand, but the price is frankly silly, it’s a great idea but very expensive. With specialist guides like this all publishers are caught between printing large numbers to get a good price and then the book goes out of date and you have large stocks & capital outlay or smaller volumes and higher print costs. I’m keeping an eye on Amazon's on demand, as the technology gets better it should get cheaper but it isn’t currently viable unfortunately 🙂

OK thanks for the reply. I do think you are leaving some on the table. Most 911 enthusiasts are not put off by a price, especially if it is something they want. I am sure there is some start up cost there and I won't assume to know what they are and you have probably done the math. Best of luck with your publication. Looks like a fantastic wealth of information.

Thanks for your good wishes Catharpin, I’ll certainly post if we do go hardcopy, in the meantime it’s still worth giving digital a try as something different hope you have a great Xmas
