Default Navigation update

Just had my navigation updated to 2019 maps . On way home from dealer it would not take my home address and tried to route me on old roads that have been changed for years .
Not sure if it takes some time for it to acclimate or what .
This is a 2013 991.1 nav

Sounds like you back dated your maps.

They should either work or not work immediately.

That does not sound right. Maybe your dealer did not have the new 2019 maps and loaded old ones.

Push INFO and SOURCE at the same time on your head unit to display PCM history. You should see this at the bottom after a successful 2019 map update:

Looks like there is some type of an error. I would take it back to the dealer.

You should be at 4.76 Software version and it looks like you still have the old maps. There was an error loading the maps and software version. They didn't do anything for you.

There is another thread on here whee we talk about this and exactly what DVDs they have to load for the two separate and distinct actions of updating software version of the PCM operating system and secondly, updating the maps to the new 2019 version. I'll dig it yup and post.

This thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1139904-map-update.html contains everything you need to know about updating your software version and 2019 maps. Note, this is for PCM 3.1 cars. This is not for the newer cars that have over the air software and nav updates.

Bottom line:

For Map Updates the dealer has to order a set of maps on DVDs that they use over and over for people wanting a map update. This should not cost you anything. It is the equivalent of a shop tool. My mechanic showed me a drawer full of them that he has for all of the map updates through the years. They load the discs onto your car's hard drive but they are not useable unless via the PIWIS they type in a multi-digit code. When you buy a map update, you are simply buying a CD case that does not contain a CD. Instead, it has a 25 digit code license key that then activates and allows your PCM to read the new map data. You cannot do this update on your own. You must have the dealer do it.

For Software version update, you or the dealer can order the disk and install it. There is no PIWIS coding needed.

See the thread for the details. It took several of us some back and forth over a few weeks until we figured it out. Good luck!

I'm not sure there are updated maps. I've been asking about that since I bought the car last year, and they don't seem to have them since then.

The map update license key that was released earlier this year and has "2018" on the package is part number 997.044.909.61

The one before that was dated April 2015 and the part number was 997.044.908.61

The dealer has to purchase the new set of maps, dated 2018, as a four disc set (Part number 997.044.973.60) while you just order and pay for the part number above (997.044.909.61) as a license key. I think a lot of times dealers tell you its not available because they don't want to pay the sunk cost of the package of actual map update DVDs. They can re-use the DVDs for any customer, but if they don't get a lot of customers asking for map updates, it's probably not worth it to them in this age of CarPlay and Waze.

Note, only the dealer can activate the license key so only they can do it.

If you don/t have Software version 4.76 you can load DVD part #WKD-952-800-17. Costs about $20. Press the INFO and SOURCE buttons together and you can see what version you have. You do not need to go to the dealer to update your software version. See

It is the 2018 map update DVD I referenced above, but it didn't come out until early 2019.

I paid $200 for the map update part plus one hour of labor at $135, for a total of $335.

After all of that work (and reviewing the other thread etc) - did you feel the map update was worth it?
