WTF happened to my black paint??!!
So I have a 2016 Carrera 4 Black Edition. I bought it (following my lease) without PPF and after 3 years, I have more than my fair share of stone chips, but also deal with it by using Dr. Color Chip and regularly wash and wax. Last week, took the car to a hand car wash place, who I have used before, without any issues. Afterward I put the car in the garage and covered it. Today, when I went to get something out of the frunk, I felt the front bumper and it felt rough to the touch. I unfurl the cover a bit, and low and behold my entire hood and front fenders feel the same way. On close inspection there are tiny white specs, all over! This is apparently what's making the paint feel so rough...So I tried a little Griots quick detailer...nothing--I have no idea what this stuff is...anyone ever experience this before? Is this something that can be corrected easily, or am Iooking at a 3k paint correction bill?

Hard to tell exactly which specs you’re referring to but sounds and looks like white overspray to me. Happened to my 911 early in its life about 18 months ago. All you have to be is downwind from a house or building being sprayed and there you go....very common. As mentioned above, you’ll need to clay (or use something like a Nanoskin Autoscrub) and that should come off easily. The clay is more likely to marr the paint than the autoscrub. But on black, you’ll need at least a one-step polish to get it looking perfect afterward, and it looks like you already need that anyway.

That’s an interesting theory...the paint was never great to begin with, the dealer did a terrible job prepping it, and it had swirls, but, nothing close to this...it’s as if the inside portion of the cover (oem indoor cover purchased from Suncoast melted onto the paint...maybe it was too hot when I put it on?
