Both my local dealer and Indy were not interested in helping me unless I shell out $3k. Guys please complain to the NHTSA. A mobile gas tank is a safety hazard…we could own the next Pinto. Porsche should cover this repair irrespective of age or mileage. It’s unconscionable to think a car that goes 190mph is “Ok” with a gas tank rubbing other components. The more people complain the more likely we are to have something done about it - much like the transmission reverse light failure warranty. Porsche needs to stop resting on its laurels and actually take care of its customers.

Huh ? In another gas tank squeak thread I posted my dealer's receipt for fixing this for a few hundred $. I pulled it up for ya:
"Displaced lower fuel tank cradle. Remove lower panels to access fuel tanks, remove lower support brackets, Align lower cradle, road test, no more noise" - $190"

Sounds like something you could try with 2 jacks and some poking around.

Greg D,I need to have my indy guy take a look at my issue ( squeaky fuel tank/ styrofoam sound) I'll tell him about your fix. I have a Fidelity warranty that I could use at the dealership but I'm leery of having them mess with it.

Greg I showed that receipt to my Porsche dealer. They insisted there is only one correct way and it’s $3k. My Indy said nothing could be done without spending a fortune. I don’t have the know-how or tools to do this safely myself so I’m stuck. Glad to hear there are honest and decent dealer out there…wish I had one near me. If anyone in Vegas knows how to do this or has the tools I’m happy to reimburse them for help!

Hey I found this place in Vegas, these DIY shops typically have a full set of tools too, all you really need is some basic ratchets and torx bits to remove the million screw holding on the under panels and to release the cradle. I bet there are people here that can help you, just show them the TSB above. But with a lift it's a breeze, if I head to Vegas in the near term I'll DM you. Just make sure you run the car to empty before you or anyone attempts to do this.

I have an appointment next week with my indy guy to take a look at my "squeaking fuel tank". I'm wondering if loosening the cradle and adding padding might be enough to cinch things up and kill the Squeak?

Indy guy removed the panel under the fuel tank, and was able to recreate the squeak by moving the tank forward and back. Now, with that info, i'm off to the dealership to see if my Fidelity Ins. will pay for this. We'll see?

You can also move the gas tank from above without having to remove any panels. FYI. get something like a wood broom handle and just rock it back and forth.

Joec500, I know that method. Being able to actually be able to grab the bottom of the fuel tank (1/4 full) and move it back and forth will replicate the styrofoam sound that Iv'e been hearing. Now that I can prove what I'm hearing, let's see what Porsche says.

Guys please file complaints with the NHTSA. A moving fuel tank is a safety issue. Eventually Porsche might cover the repair as they did with the reverse light manual transmission issue.

Neville.
