SOUL DEVELOPMENT: 991.1 Carrera Valved Performance Exhaust – IMPROVED!
#136
Loud not crazy loud. Crazy loud would be with headers that remove the cats. Mine has mellowed out from when it was first installed and sounds terrific. If I don't want it loud I close the valves.

I have not heard the AWE in person but it was one of the exhaust I considered. After listening to videos of the updated SOUL exhaust I pulled the trigger and haven't looked back.
I'm in Roseville outside Sacramento. If anyone wants to take a ride in my car drop me a note.

It will be more aggressive, yes. With valves open our piping does not choke down when going out of the exhaust tips - we designed it for maximum sound and performance. The helmholtz resonators allow the exhaust note to be aggressive while cutting down drone in the cabin in the 3,000-3,500 RPM range.

Hey, I'm in the South Bay, nearby Sunnyvale/Santa Clara.
I thought about doing it... but the homelink buttons work great and give me full control, the stock PSE system opens the valves no matter what at 4000rpm and I'm not sure if the aftermarket PSE button would do the same. Besides, you're better off putting that money into the 200 cell headers Although I must say my car is quite a bit louder than Auto Amateurs with the cats + exhaust.
Yeah I have a similar setup(street headers), it's very very Loud! It definitely mellow out a bit though, also make sure your exhaust tips aren't vibrating as well. I agree with the quietness, its about as quiet as stock with valves closed, but extremely loud with them open. Did you get a tune? I'm still debating on the cobb or softronic tune.

I'd love to be able to hear this exhaust in person before I head back east.

All we need is someone to join that has it installed.
Soul can you help contact any customers with this instal in the Oakland area or maybe there is someone on this thread who can help us out. Looks like 3 + potential customers that would like to hear before buying.

Accidentally posted some other photos of the install in the 991.2 thread b/c of the "related threads" function showing up at the bottom. Sorry about that!
I completed my DIY install on my 2013 CS with PSE. Removal of the stock exhaust, installing new air filters, and prepping for new installation took about two hours. Installing the new system took another 3-4 hours and went pretty smoothly. The exhaust sounds amazing and it's a complete monster with valves open. I love it!
Here are my tips for others doing their own installation:

Here are my tips for others doing their own installation:
- Most of my nuts were 13mm, even when the Soul instructions said 14mm. Be sure to check the size of all your fasteners before proceeding.
- The Mikalor clamps are barely long enough for the application (clamp shown in last photo). It took me an hour to figure out how to "stretch" them to fit over the vehicle's exhaust hanger. The second clamp only took five minutes. I fed the clamp in from the top, with the male side of the clamp facing the rear of the car (see photos for position). This wedges that male side of the clamp between the exhaust hanger and the frame of the car. The female side of the clamp drops below and routes along the bottom of the soul exhaust pipe. I then pulled the female side of the clamp toward me (rear of the vehicle). I pulled really hard with pliers so the clamp straightened out and bent where it wrapped around the bottom of the exhaust hanger. This is necessary b/c the clamp isn't long enough to close itself if the clamp is left in the natural "round" shape. I also used a body panel tool from Harbor Freight to push the male end of the clamp into the female side. I put all of my weight into the body panel tool and used my free hand to thread the nut onto the clamp's stud. PITA!!! I wish these clamps were 10mm longer, which would have made this a breeze.
- I torqued most of the 13mm socket fasteners to 25 ft-lb. Some research on other threads suggests this is in the right ballpark.
- Remove the bumper and the impact bar before trying to remove the stock exhaust. This makes it much easier to access the vacuum lines, cat-flange nuts, and other fasteners.
- I did not use the longer fasteners that came in the Soul kit. The cat-flange studs are pressed in and I did not want to risk damaging the flange by pressing them out. I was able to get 3-4 threads engaged with the stock studs and the soul exhaust. Not ideal, but I was able to torque them to 25 ft-lb which felt very snug by hand.
- I tried to re-use the steel braided vacuum line coming off of the vehicle firewall. I couldn't get that hose air-tight on the kit's T-connector so I used the silicone tubing that came in the kit. For the tube length, I recommend 2" between the firewall and the t-connector. Then cut the remaining tube in half and use it between the valves and the t-connector. Cut the heat shield in half and wrap it over the silicone where it rests on the exhaust pipe.

- I will update the instructions appropriately to mention 13-14mm hardware.
- As the installation of those clamps can be a pain we ordered bespoke clamps from Mikalor to achieve this very effect you desire.
- That indeed is a good torque rating.
- Removing the bumper is definitely an option!
- We do recommend using the extended hardware but you can reuse OEM - if they are catching a low amount of threads we recommend using a low strength thread locker.
- Expertly done!

Just an update on my experience.
I originally had the full exhaust with race headers (no cats), which I found to be too loud. I have since switched from the catless headers to the street headers, and find the setup to be perfect. I'm VERY happy with it, and have my sport exhaust on nearly 100% of the time.
Also I have barely used Soul Competition headers for sale. Less than 100 miles on them. PM if interested.

I'm in Alameda as well and would like to hear this exhaust for my 991.1 GTS. Maybe a meet up at Almanac brewery in Alameda this month sometime?
All we need is someone to join that has it installed.
Soul can you help contact any customers with this instal in the Oakland area or maybe there is someone on this thread who can help us out. Looks like 3 + potential customers that would like to hear before buying.
