Thinking of doing a bad thing...
I hope this isn’t too off topic, and I assure you I’m not saying this to troll...but I find myself thinking about the Tesla Model 3 performance.
A LOT.
My wife has the LR model 3 and honestly? It’s an absolute joy to drive. The power and torque makes my Targa 4S feel so sluggish by comparison.
I was planning to hold out until the Taycan, but I am increasingly concerned it will be a giant Panamera schoolbus which is just too big for me.
Please talk me out of doing something stupid, as I do love my Targa but I am drawn by the many advantages of EVs...and I’m thinking if I am waiting for Porsche to make the car I want, it will be a while.

I have been looking at them also - and drove one yesterday.
it was a joy to drive !
super fast and the thought that its new and wont break is convincing....based on price points.

Buy the Model 3 now, and then sell it and buy the Taycan after it has been out for a while and the bugs are worked out.

I own model 3 LR and 16 gts. I agree Model 3 is absolute joy to drive. Because they're so different they kinda complement each other for me. As a daily driver Model 3 is unbeatable and 911 is a good weekend get away car. Even though I love Model 3 there is no way it replaces Porsche. If I were you wait for Taycan to arrive. I believe Taycan will be smaller than Panamera and slightly larger than Model 3. I expect Taycan will have similar if not better performance than Model 3s. Also expect Taycan's handling and quality will be much better than any Tesla. Unless they seriously messed up beautiful Mission E concept I'm in line for new Taycan.

One day sooner than you think it will be nearly impossible to get a gasoline car (just as it's now nearly impossible to get a NA car), do you really want to give up the beautiful sound and feel of gasoline early ?

Try taking that Model 3 around turns as fast as your 911 and then see how much you like the performance.
WAIT FOR THE TAYCAN. 670 horsepower, all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and an 80 percent charge in just 15 minutes.

You can't beat the instantaneous torque of an electric motor. Pretty soon, electric cars will put every single super car (combustion engine) to shame when it comes to straight line performance and possibly around the corner as well. I'm hearing that the Tesla Roadster will hit 60 in less than 2 seconds. Only you can decide what you want but I'l stick with contributing to the carbon monoxide footprint until they make me stop. Glorious exhaust sound and visceral driving experience are exponentially more important to me!

Take your Targa to track days.
Come home with a grin.
Shelve the idea of buying a 3.

Don’t do it. 2 model 3’s in the family? Yee gads. If you can, swap to a targa gts. I also thought the targa 4s is a little slower to respond than I would like. Not helped by the extra weight.

I may be to old to get the allure of the Tesla and other elec cars. Straight line zoom with no noise and personally not a fan of the cabin. I don't get it but that doesn't make it wrong just wrong for me. Want faster go to a TT or TTS and keep the noise and cornering of a Porsche. Again don't go by me as my plan is to depart earth without ever having to own an all elec car.
My car has to have soul, personality, and attitude (sound is important) I just don't think I can get those from an all elec car.

Personally I think the model 3 is ugly but totally get the allure. 991.2 owners (myself included) want to make our cars louder and with a Tesla, that is literally impossible. For some reason, sound and feel of the engine equates to soul for me. Add in the sexy 911 shape and you nearly have the total package. That said, I will try to convince my wife to get a Taycan in a few years, if it delivers. Model 3, not so much.

Not getting rid of my T, but I could absolutely see getting an electric for my DD. I am waiting for the Audi e-tron GT, personally, but do think the Taycan (other than the name -- ugh) will be fantastic.
