Our Porsche club has very good relationships with the 2 local dealers so I visited with the lead mechanics at both dealerships when my warranty on my 2012 991 was about to expire and asked them if an extended warranty is a good idea. They both realized that if I bought the warranty any repair work would be done at their dealership. They both told me the same thing: there is no area of the car which has had chronic problems/issues like the IMS bearings on the prior generation cars. They are extremely reliable and unless you have something really unusual happen to the car it is extremely unlikely that you will ever make a claim on the policy. I know that my making this statement will no doubt wind up with my car suddenly having a major issue but everything I have seen tells me that the only thing you get from that warranty is peace of mind. Granted, that is certainly worth something but the question is how much.
Not buying an extended warranty. I like to live dangerously.
Besides with an annual mileage of about 5k I first have to drive the car for something major to break.

my wife and I have Geico insurance. They have a major breakdown rider you can buy within the first year of new car ownership good for seven years / 100k. Costs 10$/mth. 250$ deductible. I haven’t read the policy but we signed up. May be worth it for new car buyers.

We bought ours in October. 2018 CPO w/ 2,500 miles. Our warranty is good thru 12/23, unlimited miles. I have already had 2 water pump issues.
I am looking at the 10 year - 100K Porsche Warranty. The miles will fit our needs. So basically it will be a 4 year extension whereas our CPO is for 6 years. For pricing I ask myself, how much is 4 extra years of warranty worth to me? The $7,227 cost is way too much IMO. after the holidays I am going to shop the 10/100K Porsche Warranty.
Years ago, you used to be able to purchase Factory extended warranty's out of state. From what I understand that is not the case anymore.
I've just received quotes from my local dealer. They offer the Porsche & CustomEdge Plus (Warrantech). No Fidelity.
Here is the pricing along with the dialogue that might be helpful (cut & paste):
Porsche Vehicle Service Protection Plan-Platinum PlanExtension of the factory warranty coverage up to 10years/ 100,000 miles. Covers parts and labor for all the mechanical, electrical and high tech components of the vehicle other than what is listed in the exclusions parts listed minus a small deductible. They are not going to covers normal wear and tear and maintenance like batteries, spark plugs, routine maintenance, brake pads, tires, cosmetic damage, etc. Coverage accepted in USA and Canada and is transferable or cancelable upon vehicle sale.
The plans listed below start from the in-service date of 12/22/17 and mileage listed is total on the odometer. $250ded. 8 years/100,000 miles - $6,312 9 years/100,000 miles- $6,797 10years/ 75,000 miles- $5,949 10years/100,000 miles- $7,227
We do also offer a third party warranty as well which is a more flexible with terms and mileage. Both Porsche’s warranty plan and CustomEdge are exclusionary policies, meaning it covers everything except a list of items and services that are listed in the EXCUSIONS paragraph of what is NOT covered. CustomEdge does have covered additionally the Emissions parts and Airbags/Safety Restraint Systems which are excluded under Porsche Protection Plans warranty.
CustomEdge Plus(Warrantech)- Ultimate plan will cover parts and labor for your mechanical, electrical, high tech components, etc. It is an exclusionary policy and will cover most of everything except normal wear and tear maintenance items, services and physical damage, trim items, things of that sort. It is an exceptional coverage and automatically covers you for towing, roadside assistance, trip interruption, and rental car coverage.
The plans are customizable and offer flexible year/mileage plans based on your driving habits has deductible options up to $500 and can cover mileage up to 125,000 miles.

Agreed. On our 18 911 I will always have a warranty.
Honestly at my age now, this will probably be our last late model 911. We are planning super cool road trips the next few years. 12 days driving thru back roads of Colorado, Up the west coast and down back thru National Parks, Smokey Mountains, Canada, etc... I will probably buy an inexpensive 996 to drive around town down the road.
I too want to learn and hear more about out of warranty/ non cpo experiences. I'm trying to decide on buying one from fidelity for my 2014 and that information woul be so helpful...

I was thinking about it awhile ago and talked with my service advisor, after the mass terror here about the PDK falling off the sky. His view is that PDK in the 991 is quite sturdy. He would be more concerned if I had a Macan. But he is more than willing to introduce me to the finance manager to get a fidelity quote.
Reading between the lines, I think it is just extra $$$ to the dealership to pay the finance manager's salary. If there is a time I think my 991 is a Yugo, then I'll just sell it.
Hard decision to make as its all a gamble. Most of these cars are bulletproof. Yes you can have issues at anytime but most are not bank breaking. Yes you can have a big one.
I still have 18 months of warranty left. I am considering self insuring, $150 to $200 a month put away for major issues, handle all the small ones out of picket. 2-3 years you have a kitty of $4-$8000 which could handle a sizable issue. Don't have an issue take a vacation.

Then I decided to buy a Powertrain Fidelity Warranty after that. It paid out a $10k transmission and also a thermostat on it. The $3k I paid for the Powertrain was well worth it.
I would really like to hear about actual experience with Fidelity, Porsche Branded, and other warranties on the replacement of big ticket items, transmissions, short blocks, etc. With Porsche practice of no internal repairs, but instead complete replacement of sealed units, this is the big question. Even if extremely unlikely, this is what makes me unwilling to drive a Porsche without warranty protection.

RMS leak and CamHousing cover leak.
Auto Nation 30 warranty covered the cam housing and Fidelity did the RMS.
No hassle.
