Default Whistling Drivers Window

My drivers side window has had a noticeable whistle at speeds over 80mph since new. Have an appointment to get the seal checked and possibly replaced. Has anyone else had this and was it just a seal or a door/window adjust or alignment issue (can’t see anything off visually)?

There are aftermarket wind deflectors that many use to reduce a booming effect with open windows. They aren't too expensive.

Maybe worth looking into that option as it changes the wind direction at the windows.

That whistle may also be a function of speed as the wind travels over a certain feature of the car or a window being pulled away from the weatherstripping due to a change in pressure as speed increases.

I don't know if there is some adjustment built in to change the tracking of the window glass itself, the dealer should be able to advise.

If you're consistently driving at over 80 mph in the US, I would be more worried about getting stopped for speeding (unless you live in open west).

I have Blackmill deflectors for open windows works well, but still have the whistle when closed. If I wanted to drive slowly I’d have gotten a Prius not a 911 GTS.

I had an issue similar to yours on a long time ago where the window pulled away from the weatherstripping (towards the back) and I actually saw it happen (a quick glance to the back confirmed it, done carefully or better yet have a passenger look for you).

I experimented with temporary padding to move/thicken the weatherstripping and it helped quite a bit to lessen the noise.

Don't know if you could do the same to experiment. Another way to track down a weatherstrip leak is to use some painters tape to seal the driver's window and then try to duplicate the condition. Removal of the tape by sections could pinpoint the source. Could also show that the noise isn't from the window.

Good luck.

Have you tried dropping the window slightly and then returning it to the full closed position while at speed?
Sometimes it just doesn't seat right

Do you have your mirrors wrapped with clear film?

There's a few post on here talking about the phenomena.

yep your PPF is the problem.....

try fold a piece of tape long the top of the side mirror, if noise is gone, then you found your problem.

This is how i got rid of mine

Thanks. Will try the tape/bumper and see if it makes a difference. I have an appointment later this week to diagnose if it’s not the issue. Who would have thought. Rennlist comes through again

This was another annoying item on my list that I can now cross off. Thank you!

Follow up. I went the local hardware store and picked up the cabinet bumpers. They had rounded 3/8 and a more square profile 1/2. I played around with size and placement but it was immediately apparent this was the culprit. The best airflow smoothing occurred with the smaller rounder profile in the position depicted. Also played with fore and aft and about 1/2 back from the lip of the mirror housing gave the best result

I had an issue where when you opened and closed the door, the passenger side window wasn't going completely up, so it whistled at speed, unless you manually raised it more. They had to replace the control module, covered under CPO.

My Pal and I both have similar problems. Let me know what dealer says. Sounds like its coming from middle /top of drivers window on both of our cars.
