The GT3 is a fantastic value compared to most 911 models, as evidenced by this low MSRP. The ridiculously minuscule depreciation is a nice bonus on top of that.
I had a 991.1 GT3 for a year and a half, and it was a great car. A GTS isn't on the same playing field.

No buckets, no front axle lift, private party that is a $115k car. Lots of good deals on 991.1 GT3.
If it were mine, I’d track it hard until the motor blew and then get my new motor and live happily ever after, but I don’t like PDK so I sprung for a 991.2 GT3.

You are so right about the prices on the .1 GT3 now. I really love the low end torque on my .2 C2S but after seeing the GT3 in person it is just such a beautiful car with a storied racing history. I keep finding reasons not to buy one but after seeing one in person last year I just can't stop thinking about it. I looked at one a private seller had near me and it was initially priced high, I kept watching it and the price kept dropping but it was not really the color I wanted. The car had LWB seats which were a real chore to get in and out of. I still thought they were cool but getting in and out of them was a bit of a struggle.
The lack of depreciation on these cars vs the Non GT 911s is pretty impressive.
The things that keep me from buying one at this point are I'm afraid I will miss the torque down low I enjoy now, center lock wheels, and what happens when it is out of warranty and I have to replace a PDK or an engine. A new .1 GT3 engine is almost 80k if I remember what I read correctly. The maintenance interval is a little more stringent vs the regular 911 as well and my local dealer while good is an hour away.
I also love to drive my 911 everywhere even on longer road trips. Not sure how the GT3 would be in comparison....again thinking of dealing with center locks if you get a flat tire. Can most tire places deal with center locks? I didn't think they could but maybe I'm wrong.

The thing that would keep me from buying one is it has probably been tracked. If you are in that financial hemisphere just buy a new one.

Unless you are going to be tracking hardcore the gt3 is severely overrated for non track use.

I don't recall the maintenance interval being that stringent, at least I didn't have to do much. When I got my oil changed they said "see you in a year for the next oil change".
