Another nice thing about it is that it is a one-touch operation vice holding the switch the entire time.

I forgot to add that the Targa does not have a windstop like the Cab does, which to some looks silly (like me) and it blocks the rear seats.
There is absolutely no way I’d ever open that top while moving. No freaking way, even if it’s possible. That top is way too big and heavy.

The windstop in the cab cab is paired to the top operation. And it’s invisible when stowed. So not really any benefit to the targa there. It does looks silly and I rarely use it, or feel the need to. It is nice in like the 40’s when it’s sunny with the windows up and the wind deflector up.

It is more expensive than the cabriolet.
It has far superior visibility through the rear window than the Cabriolet.
It also has a "real" rear defroster so you can actually see in winter time out of the back.

Targa owners seem to hold on to their cars longer and there are fewer of them for resale, resulting in a higher resale value as well.
I chose it because I felt it was the BEST of all of the options. More open air than a coupe and more visibility than a Cabriolet.
It is also the heaviest if that concerns you as far as racing..
Cab has a real rear defroster as well. I agree, it has much better visibility.

Love the Targa, and there does seem to be less available in the secondary market.

Love the Targa, too - love the lines & it's unique look. My next 911 will definitely be a Targa.

I originally thought I wanted a Targa because I love the looks. I ultimately decided to go with a coupe for a few reasons:

- Thought the extra weight would require the S engine (this may not be valid)
- Materially more expensive than a C2 because with the Targa you have to pay for the four wheel drive and the S engine (very hard to find non-S Targas)
- I kept reading about squeaks and rattles in the roof mechanism (maybe just the early cars?). Rattles drive me nuts and i did not want to take a chance spending this kind of money on a new car and having squeaks and rattles. (Again - this was internet research, so it's likely not representative of the total population)

Out of all the Targa owners here on the forums none have reported squeaks and rattles...the Internet is full of BS just like the reports of unbearable cockpit turbulence, which is not the case.

And finally, #3 - you are right, the Targa is a better experience.
Will the dealership install the SmartTop?

The Targa I ordered should arrive in December and I am interested in this device.

I am sure they will and probably charge 1/2 hour labor to do so; however, it looks pretty easy to do and I plan to do it myself.

agree. It takes no time. And unlike those that say they won’t operate the SmartTop while moving, it is available from the factory in Europe to perform as such. It’s the US regulations that required us to not be able to operate the top via the key and to stay stationary during operation.

Ill continue to “roll” with it while dropping my top.

I love using the key from a far to activate the top while someone is checking it out. The reactions are priceless.

It is actually because the clamshell partially blocks the taillights when it is fully open.
