911 Decision Time

911 Decision Time
I had my car in to check the A/C and saw my SA. He told me it was time that I could order another car (mine is leased). So the wheels have been turning ever since.
The options are:
1. Keep the current car. I had this built and love the car. It is perfect for me, right down to the 19 inch rims.
2. Order a new one. I spent the past 5 days on the configurator. With so few paint choices, the only color I might consider is Miami blue. I was going to do PTS, but I refuse to give Porsche that obscene amount. The rest of the options would remain the same. I am not sure it is worth changing it out, and it makes little sense to build another car exactly like the one I have. My SA can get a C2 allocation for me. I thought about changing models, maybe a Targa, but after consideration of the line, the C2 coupe is the right fit for me.
3. Wait for the 718 Spyder. I am on the fence about this one but already on the waiting list for it. It's a sexy car, but not a 911, and no turbo. I love the low end torque.
4. Wait for a 992. I am worried about the 992. I like real gauges and the unique body style of the current 911. The new one looks like a Panamera coupe to me, not a 911. But still.
For the past few days I have been driving the 911 to work to help me sort out what to do. I don't want to wait too long as the C2 allocations will soon be gone. Right now, I think there is no bad decision in this case and defaulting to keep my current C2.
If I keep the car, I was thinking about wrapping the car in a different color just for a change. Has anybody ever done this?
If I order a new one, I might make a few small changes. I currently have ventilated 14 ways. The seat bottoms seem rather thin on long trips (some of the long trips are 8 hours). I was thinking about switching to Sport-tex in Sport Seats Plus (4-way) and wonder if they would have more padding due to lack of the ventilation and motors. Does anybody have any experience with this kind of switch?

The 4 ways have the most cushion since the have the least amount of electronics to deal with. My regulation sized behind couldnt deal with 14 ways on longer drives (even less that the buckets for some reason). Sport tex breathes nicely and Nick Murray loves it fwiw. Only downside is its harder to get in and out with the bigger bolsters . Mainly for passengers, I dont really mind it as I am still a strapping young lad (at least this is what I tell myself )
Last thing about the 4 ways, the slider handle prohibits the installation of the "ultimate cup holder" so if this is your bag then take that into consideration.

Thanks for the advice and it makes sense. No, I don't need additional cup holder technology. The current ones work fine for me.

From your preferences, 992 doesn't sound like the car for you—and while I am sure the next Spyder is gonna be a cool car, I believe it will struggle to beat the 991.2 Carrera as one of those rare Porsche sweet spots. As you know, I put the current Carrera 7MT up there with stuff like the 987 Boxster Spyder and 997 RS 4.0...not quite at the tippy top of the list with them, but certainly in the realm. Cars like this only come along every so often, and my preference for my "plain" Carrera over the GT4 I sold to get it is considerable. Wondered about canceling the GT4 after my first drive in a 991.2 Carrera, and didn't because I thought I was crazy. I now see I wasn't. This is a particularly sweet vintage of the 911, among many sweet vintages.

Ventilated definitely makes the seat "harder", and I was gonna say "keep your car" until I got to the 14-ways. And SportTex is the daddy of them all when it comes to comfort. I would make the switch if 4WSS+ (go sit in a pair) are in the cards. Agree about colors, and hard to go wrong with your GT Silver (if that's what you have), though I have to admit loving the 991 in Agate after all these years. It's never gotten old, even if I know there are too many gray cars out there. Miami, which I initially hated, has grown on me and I too would consider it. Plus, there is always something cool about a "last of" car. I don't think it makes them more valuable to others, but I like that in a car. 1998 993s, for instance.

Thanks for that positive note. Also, what do you think about a C2 vs the C4? I haven't driven the C4, but read that it changes the dynamics to a bit too neutral. I really like sliding the rear a bit.

If you like your C2 coupe, why trade? Unless you feel the need to upgrade to a C2S, X51, or GTS...
And the 992's will likely be priced higher. Historically thats what has happened.

For me, an "upgrade" is too much car for me. I grew up with a number of small displacement sports cars and loved them on the back roads. That's where I really enjoy driving, and 370 is more than enough power for me.

Ahhh, Miami. Initially saw it as too flashy, too much to live with...and too washed out against other bold blues of the past. Have grown to really like it on some models, and the C2 coupe is one of them...
And Miami does look particularly good with red calipers, bright silver wheels, and Sport PASM, for some reason.
Then again, it's hard to argue with a silver 911 coupe when it comes to timelessness...
Decisions, decisions. If the deal is okay, 4WSS+ over the 14-ways alone would be enough for me to make the leap. SportTex would be gravy.

Don't worry about what everyone else thinks, it's YOUR car, and you only live once. I say buy whatever makes you happy, and if Miami Blue makes you happy then go for it! (my fav color btw). IMO a 992 C2S with a 500HP cobb tune would be so amazing. Power + brand new styling + performance > 991 = win.

We haven't even discussed the deal, yet. I need to get through the configurator, but as Hurricane will tell you, our SA makes the deal happen.
