To be honest I feel more assured driving a 991.1 GT3 after 4/50k (or when the 991.1 911 warranty is up) than the other way around. At a minimum the GT3 is engine is warrantied an additional 6/50k. The other parts of the car may not be, but then neither is the regular 911. Plus, the depreciation curve on the GT3 is less steep than on a regular 911.

This.

If it all checks out, pull the trigger!

First, the engine warranty is 10 years from date the original warranty was activated or 120k miles, whichever comes first. My advice is to drive the car, it is very much different than the non GT 911. Second, if you decide to go forward, have the TPC DCS controller installed, it will tame the suspension for the street, while enhancing the track suspension. Also, many people believe these cars do not even reach their potential until they have 20k plus on them. As for the engine issues, not a big deal. If you start to experience misfires, the dealer will first replace plugs, then coils and then the engine. It is about that simple. BTW, the engine will be the G which has had a good record so far. I know of only one failure and it was not related to the notorious finger follower issue.
As for me, I will never own anything but a GT car. They are that much better than the other variants. Just my opinion.

I traded up from a .1 GTS to a .1 GT3, it's a keeper for sure

$15K loss in two months?? LMAO. They're trying to royally screw you.

The only think you should lose on that 4S is what you'll lose in what you paid in tax. With the way .1 prices have been holding and even appreciating, if you had the time (obviously they're trying to get you to rush into the GT3) by selling it private party, you can probably even mitigate the tax loss. But I would never trade into a dealer, regardless. They're always at least costing you $10K just for convenience sake. On a 911, quite a bit more than that.

Thats a bold statement - perhaps you should have said - better at going round a track for more than 15 laps

As an all rounder and genuine daily driver I would take the GTS every day of the week over the GT3. In fact as a sports car daily I'd take a thoughtfully specced T over the GT3. . Everyones "better" is relative

As others have said - the OP is not getting a great deal and was seemingly unaware of the very real issues in regard to the 991.1 GT3 engine. Over here they are finding it very hard to shift 991.1 GT3s. Sad to say its very much a case of caveat emptor.

The reason I "belled the cat" was because dealers behave in different ways to this issue. Many don't even acknowledge it unless directly asked and I personally believe thats wrong and disingenuous to say the least.

I think its fair that, if the OP makes the trade its done in an open and honest way - for example he could raise the issue of known engine failure as a trading point and assume that risk at the right price and trade in price.

Different horses for different courses.

Driving a GT3 in traffic everyday or around town can seem overkill. I can't get out of second gear as it is on my lowly S.

As others have already said, the deal is not so good.

Also, I personally wouldn’t touch a .1 GT3 with a 10 foot pole. Tons of fun to drive but also a real mark of engineering failure for Porsche. You’ll have the extended warranty to cover your losses when the engine goes but who has the time or desire to deal with that? If you can swing it, grab a .2 GT3, so far, no failures ..

I don't think the trade in on your C4S is fair for only two months. $5K is reasonable, $10-15K is robbery. If you're keeping the GT3 forever, then a .1 might work. If you're like me and trade frequently, keep in mind that the .1 carries a negative reputation for the engine issues as have been discussed, and will make it yet another hit in the shorts should you try to sell it later.

Obviously the deal is obnoxious, but that's just money.

As to the cars - if you're willing to accept a rougher ride there's no reason not to use a .1 GT3 as a DD or weekend road car. It's totally serviceable for that use. I enjoy my .2 C2S more than my .1 GT3 but that's mostly the turbo and the drastically improved PCM. When prices come down a tad in a year or so I'll probably buy a .2 GT3 to replace my C2S and use it the same way - occasional track alternative and around town fun.
