This is a serious game changer for me if it is already built in.
The instructions for installing the roof bars are in the regular owners manual. Take a look at the instructions for lifting up the molding (as shown in the helpful photo posted above). To verify that your car has the mounting hardware, which it should as as all 991 Carrera models do, just lift the molding per the instructions and you should be able to swing up the mounting point.

I was shocked at how quick and easy the install was, particularly given my experience with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and a few others in the past

Enjoy

Would love to see a picture of what this looks like with the sunroof open.

When you order the roof transport system it comes with a little tool to help lift the rubber pieces. I would be really careful trying to lift them without the tool.

In my experience, the sunroof only opens 1/4 to 1/3 of the way with the rear cross bar on. But it's so easy to take it off. And then, with only the front cross bar in place, your 911 will look like it has a handle for lifting! ;-)

God bless,
TT

Can you tell me what's the distance/length of space between the crossbars?

This is not an exact number, but it is roughly 30".

Did you measure that with the bars on? My 30" estimate was also for a 991.2, but I don't have the bars on now. 35" would be a real stretch, unless I'm missing something.

God bless,

Confirmed, same for my 991.1. This is center of bar to center of other bar. Inside edge to inside edge is about 33”.

For the poster who asked about sunroof opening, the amount is so small it’s not even worth opening the sunroof. It hits the rear towers after only a couple inches. Instead, I use the tilt mechanism.

I stand corrected. I remeasured and 35" would be about right. I also agree with the above comment about the opening of the sunroof. Just a few inches. But take off the rear bar, which only takes a minute or so, and you have the use of the whole sunroof...and you get the basket handle look, as well!

Any water problems with your sunroof with the bars on in the rain...I'm worried that the rubber sealing at the front and the back on each side is no longer in place?

God bless,
TT

The slot is sealed at the bottom.
This is the location where the roof metal turns 90 degrees on both sides to form a stiffener for the roof structure.
Logical locations to support weight.

I think it's in the owner's manual of the car, possibly in the section containing instructions for installation of the roof transport system.

165lbs but I have certainly exceeded that at least some.

Learned something new today thanks to this thread! Also I think it explains why the weather stripping on my car sometimes doesn't sit flush in the groove. Probably the previous owner used the roof system at some point and didn't push it back in properly. I always was afraid to mess with it since I figured it was glued in there or something but now that I know it's made to be lifted, I'll try to reposition it better!

If you pull one piece out you will see that there are little rubber "snaps" on each end that must be snapped back into place to hold things. Best to have the tool that comes with the roof transport system.
