Default How to remove headliner?

I'm trying to access the satellite radio antenna. Has anyone removed a 991 headliner before? The Workshop Manual only describes some clips in the rear which I've unlooked, but it appears it's attached in some way towards the center / sides near the B-pillars. This is a car without a sunroof.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: At a second read of your post I see you probably already have the manual I referenced below. I know on the 997 there were flexible metal rods than ran laterally across the headline. They were springy and the tips snapped into slots on each side under tension. But I don't know if it is the same in a non-sunroofed 991.

Oddly, the manual doesn't cover having the SDARS antenna in the roof, only on the rear deck lid.

Original post:
Look at the repair manual starting at page 2779. I've put a copy temporarily here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fi41obpz9f...anual.pdf?dl=0

Now I'm more confused. At first I thought you were referring to the satellite radio antenna, but looking at a photo of this non-sunroofed car I see the antenna for that is still on the deck lid.

Are you referring to the GPS antenna? If so, I don't think you remove the headliner to get to that, it is against the windshield in the upper console assembly with the mirror assembly; shown as item #1 in this diagram.

Thanks for the reply. I’m referring to the satellite radio antenna which is on the roof for the GT3 cars.

I ended up loosening the headliner enough to access the mounting screws without needing to fully remove the headliner, thankfully. I’m still curious how it removes fully, though!

Hi
I am trying to do the same thing. I need to remove the roof antenna to remove some residual vinyl wrap. Do you mind sharing the info with me?
Thank you.

Has anyone removed the satellite radio antenna from a 2014 911? I'm considering removing it since it looks like a wart but not sure underneath and what to put in its place ?

To fully remove the head liner from the car, you need to take out the front and back glass as it is all one piece. You don't want to know how I know this....

No way... really? I am scheduled to have the headliner replaced on my .2 GT3 under warranty as it is sagging a bit by the rear side windows past the B pillars (showing exposed material a bit). Did not know it would be that intensive

Yep. Tow company I used after an accident to my TTS put all the parts inside when delivering it to the repair shop I chose. In doing so, they got grease in the headliner, amongst a ton of other damage. To get the headliner out, repair shop had to take out both the front and back glass. Apparently it is a huge goat rope to get it all out too.

One picture of many of the inside being repaired.

The Porsche Factory Service manual has detailed instructions with illustrations on how to replace the headliner without removing glass...

Correct. No need to remove glass.

So after seeing this and checking the manual, I had to ask my repair shop why they went through the glass. Apparently they were in the process of setting the new passenger door and it can't be opened to do the extraction through the door. So instead, they had to take out the glass to get the headliner out so as not to slow down that part of the repairs. Not sure why the didn't do this prior to starting the door work, but at this point I don't care as long as it is all done right in the end. Upside is the windshield had some small chips in it anyways, so now the insurance gets to give me a new one.

Sorry to resurrect this topic. I want to remove and replace the headliner in my 2014 non-sunroof TTS and have looked everywhere here and on other sites and cannot find instructions detailing the process.

Does anyone have instructions they'd be willing to share?

Thank you and Happy New Year!
