Daily Driver?...

I use my C4S as a daily driver in Northern New Jersey. Ride quality is surprisingly good and so is gas mileage depending on driving style.

I’ve had my Carrera T for around 3 weeks now and use it as my sole vehicle. My commute is only around 10 minutes, so the oil temperature barely gets to 180 by the time I roll into work. So, I basically drive below 3,000 RPM on most short trips.
The great thing about this 3.0L twin turbo flat six is how easy it is to drive at low RPM with full torque hitting around 1,700 RPM. I am also amazed at the chassis on the car and how it soaks up everything on the road. I turned off the PCM the first day I got the car and it has only been turned on maybe 3 times since then.
It is hard to quantity how enjoyable it is to drive this car each day with no distractions from the PCM and just listening to the engine as I shift my own gears. I think this connection to the car and the act of driving is one of the main pitches for buying a Carrera T and I have definitely drank the Cool Aid.

Interesting the Golf R is a great platform. I am getting ready to replace my 545 and the R is the choice. With the flash the car is scary fast.
For me the 991 would not be a good daily driver for several reasons. I am concerned about the vehicle sustaining damage. I will not for instance park it in certain lots (home depot, etc). Getting in and out of a sports car 5 times a day is difficult.. I have a rear hitch thule bike rack I really like (easy on and off). The seating position and ability to easily enter and exit the car would limit the value for me as well.
It also kind of goes back to something a wise guy said to me many years ago, "if you party all the time, it is no longer a party". I save the 911 as a special experience like a good wine or meal. I think that may be why so many rich people get depressed. Every day is a party so nothing is a party.

Another DD checking in. '14 C2. Absolutely love driving it everyday for everything. Every time I cold start it in the morning, it sounds and feels like a special event. My commute is approximately 25 miles each way, reverse traffic, mountain roads, from Silicon Valley into Santa Cruz so it almost feels criminal not taking her to work everyday. I had a 981 CS prior to the 991 and while I miss the handling of that car, this one feels a bit more comfortable when I want it to be and is more practical for those with a young family. The kids love the occasional drop-off and pick-up from school in daddy's P-car.

650i Gran Coupe.
It's a 4430 pound beast that is effortless to pass 99% of anything I encounter on public roads. Not even in the same ballpark as a 911 in terms of agility but I need something quiet and 4 doors for my daily. The seating position is exactly as marketed with regards to feeling like a 4 door sports car. The seating position and sitting down low is about it as far as feeling anything like a sports car though. Styling is refreshing and its a fantastic highway cruiser which is 90% of my utilitarian driving. Oddly enough my 911 gets better MPGs....

I dailied various kinds of m3s for over a decade and the 991.1 is just as easy a car to live with as any of them. By all accounts the 991.2 is even better in this regard. My GTS is on a 40-60 timeshare with my Mercedes E63S for daily driver duties. The big merc is a very different car that's just as fun to drive for completely different reasons to the 911. It's also better equipped and slightly more comfortable on the highways and in bad weather so it gets slightly more of the commute usage but not by much. That said, I would have absolutely no problem dding my 911. It's bulletproof reliability, general level of comfort, surprisingly good fuel economy and overall sense of fun make it a very nice daily.

I live in a country were streets and parking spaces are much narrower than in the US. A lot of our streets have bumps and holes but still enjoy my 991.2 Cab as a daily driver. In the past my daily drivers were Audi A4 Avant, Volvo XC90 (2 generations), Audi Q5, Land Rover Discovery 4, Cayenne S, Boxter S 981, 991.2 and now the 991.2 Cab..... Guess which one I'm enjoying the best. Drive it everyday and really don't care about the traffic and parking. That's what insurance is for.
