Any way to get our Key Fobs to work with multiple Porsches?
Many of us have more than one modern Porsche (SUVs, Sedans etc). Can we get the dealer to program our key fobs for more than one Porsche? I know we can get the colored key fobs retrofitted to distinguish between cars but I don't carry a man purse either. These fobs are big. I'd love to just have one fob for my cars. I know.....first world problem but this can't be hard to figure out.
Yeah....but then I have to have three key chains (I'm working on getting a third Porsche for track use only). I've tried to start up one of my cars with the other car's FOB accidentally and it wouldn't turn over.....I thought I had a dead battery at first. The key FOB actually inserted and turned just fine.
It's not like the Porsche FOB wont slip into any socket either - It fits into any Porsche socket. It's unlike a house a key that wont even fit into a lock if it is not the right key. This seems like a simple modern solution. I don't care about paying $300 bucks to get it reprogrammed. I'm sure we can think of many examples where this multi-function aspect comes into play. For example, I have one Comcast account but use over 10 electronic instruments on their network. It's the same password (i.e. Key FOB). I think car manufacturers are behind the times on this point. Maybe they should go to the thumb print like my iphone....but then I wouldn't have the pleasure of turning the key to hear the roar.

Sure...I have thought about this solution but as I stated above, I don't carry a man purse. These FOBs are big and getting bigger. This issue is coming up because my wife always insist that we go out in our Boxster (She likes the convertible with NA PSE sound), but my 911 is my daily driver and that key chain also has all my house keys on it. It's really a pain in the butt to carry two key chains and it seems like a simple but effective solution - to program one key FOB for multiple cars.
While I think your idea is interesting I would be very concerned about transferring ownership and then someone else out there has a key that would work in your car. I am blissfully assuming that my car key is unique to my car and that no one else has a key that would allow them to start and drive my car and I kinda like that.
In terms of house keys, etc. I have gone to a small key ring that hold all those types of keys. That way all I have to do is grab that ring and the fob for the Cayenne or the fob for the Carrera (whichever is appropriate) and I am good to go. It has the added advantage of having only the car fob in the ignition and not a ring with a bunch of other key hanging there
FOB on its own (or small colour coded ring/blades) and house keys on a ring as posted above. How difficult is that? I hate dangling keys so perhaps I’m biased.
1 key for multiple cars....no thank you for the reasons above. Or use the breakaway rings as posted above again.
