I caved and ordered an R3. Recently got a ticket for doing 79 in a 55mph while driving an Acura TL...would have been worse in the 911. What mount do you guys recommend for the R3 and 991 combo? Blendmount seems good but rather pricey...any place to grab a discount?

Thanks,
NF

Blendmounts look nice, but way way way overpriced. This does the same thing and is almost infinitely adjustable and with a smaller footprint. Cool part is you can use it with almost any detector as you can change mounts without having to change the entire unit. Have had mine for years.

Have the new R3 with a Blendmount, then had it hard wired...Blendmount over priced, maybe, the piece of mind of fitment is worth something.

I too like the Blendmount. Price aside fit and overall look is very good.

You have to go with what works for you. I have been using detectors of some kind for a very long time. I have tried many different ones so I have relied on experience not just testing. This technology gets old fast now and new players have entered like Radenso and others with quality units.
I would not have ever purchased a Uniden unit before even though the R1 is a very respectable detector. I ran a Escort 9500IX for years, thought it was great, until it wasn't.
I was skeptical of the news on the R3 but it was reading owners experiences/comments that got me to try it. Previous Escort, Valentine, Beltronics, owners that switched.
It is a simple unit but with all the user inputs one would want (I don't care about arrows) and it works. Less falses, earlier detection, easy set up, easy to read screen, small and light.
If it's not for you, don't get it but for now in almost all of the "independent" testing and real life it seems to be a clear leader.

I have escort max - just got laser tagged and ticketed. Not a peep from the unit. Nothing. Saw LEO (behind bridge abutment) slammed brakes. Too late, apparently. How could the unit not go off at all?

There was other traffic in front and side of me.

Maybe no consolation to you, but if you got hit with laser, the escort would not have helped you even if it alarmed you. You need laser jammers against laser hits - regular radar detectors with laser alarms will only let you know to pull over because your gonna get a ticket. As far as why it did not go off, if he hit you from up top, your roof probably blocked the signal from the detector. How fast were you going?

Saw him - slammed on brakes - front plowed, then he got me.
He was in his car at grade. I don’t have front plate.
He said 92. I don’t think so. I was literally following a Tiguan

Jammers - ALP is the best, but it is expensive, but worth it IMO

There are issues with most all laser detectors coupled with radar detectors. Some work better than others and stupid things like weather, surroundings, etc have an effect. I have no real answer as to why it did not detect, but I have heard that it does happen.

This car came with Uniden R3 and I used valentine one.

My impressions are that uniden has a better/incredible range and less false alarms. I wish it could know and display the speed limit. Its quite easy to configure and is small profile/ sleek. The tiny screen is simple and easy to read.

Valentine One had so many false alarms I stopped paying attention to it eventually. The arrows were useful, but it was not always clear which type of signal it detected with the red dots. The red lights and beeping got your attention better.

I get X band false alerts around stores/gas stations sometimes. Uniden seems to get triggered by stores that Valentine didn't...and visa versa.

I don't speed, but it feels more comfortable to have the radar detector to know police is nearby. The single recent ticket I got was years ago going too fast while passing really slow 3 cars, one of them being a hidden local sheriff. By law in my state, you can't even speed while passing people, which is not very realistic honestly. Not supposed to pass more than 1 car at a time too. Everyone goes 10 MPH over the limit generally, but my bet is the cop will pull the Porsche over for the slightest reason, so I go below the speed limit if I see one nearby, so there is another reason it helps having a detector. My last car I experienced several times a cop deliberately following me for a long distance for no specific reason.

As already mention, a detector wont prevent a ticket. In my area, only the dumb cops ride around with their radar constantly on. Smart ones blip it on only when they suspect you're speed via visual clues...sometimes you being a sports car being enough. They hit you with laser and KA band at the same time and normally its too late to react. There are cops using laser guns pointing down on bridges sometimes. They get your speed and then there is another cop ahead that pulls you over...wont be able to avoid a trap like this with a detector either. I was told they pull you over anyway if they suspecting you have laser jamming equipment, but its actually legal in most states...you still have the go through the hassle of getting it dropped in court.

Concerning the "expensive" BlendMount discussion, I have never had a Radar Detector or GPS that would stay on my windshield beyond one week in the hot Florida Sun. I maintained them all with frequent cleaning of the suction cup and windshield. On two occasions in two different Porsches I bought BlendMounts.. On the first occasion in my 1995 993, I cracked the windshield during installation. When it was replaced I tried again with the care I had learned and mounted a BlendMount that was still there when I sold the 993. On my current 991.1 GTS I ordered a BlendMount and, when mounted, the stalk was not long enough to reach the buttons on the top of the Escort Max with my fingers. I merely contacted Blendmount and they sent me a longer stalk free of charge.
I have not yet been contacted by a Radar Detector falling off a BlendMount.

You get what you pay for.

Was traveling west in NJ yesterday on RT 80 by Stanhope. Totally missed the state trouper blasting me with gun until buzzer and lights went off on my K40. Was going ~85. Thought I might get some kind of warning prior, but I guess he was only shooting. Not using K or Ka band as well. No ticket, but heart was still racing for the next few miles. Whew!

Considering going with MAX Ci 360 custom installation. This thread has installation options listed, if you are interested
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-turb...cabriolet.html

My question Ci360's DragonEye detection capability.
RALETC placed the Max Ci 360 on the bench and as far as I understand they found that Ci360 is able to alert to the DragonEye only when ECCM (Electronic Counter-Counter Measure - DragonEye’s name for their anti-jamming functionality) is disabled. So if the anti-jamming capability is on, the DragonEye won't be detected by MAX Ci360.
There might have been a firmware upgrade to the Ci360, but reading the web the results are inconclusive.
Any real-life experience?

ALP is the name of the game w anything laser - I wouldn't bother rolling the dice on Escort.

I get lasered on a regular basis in the beautiful state of NJ. Highest real estate taxes, horrible road quality, and aggressive speed limit enforcement, just the best state all around
