Teeny weeny bit off topic, but I opened the fuse box and it's hanging on trim isolated from the body, is there a -ve connection in there somewhere?

You need to remove the small carpet trim around the actual fuse box, and you will see a silver hex-nut an the bottom left of the box. That is attached to the chassis. I used that for ground.

Massdrop.com has the Uniden R3 for 364 (I think plus shipping) this week. I bought dash cams from them before. They have an interesting business model.
PM if interested in an extra $10 for referral...

Ah... thanks! I'm getting so lazy when it involves contortions to get to things.

I just started using the app V1 Driver. It adds GPS tracking to the V1 and emulates Savvy (Which I don't have) for the low-speed silencing of alarms. So far so good. It takes several days of repeated hits on X/K door openers to silence them so we'll see how it is doing by the end of the week. It runs in the background so you don't have to have the screen front and center so you can run Waze primary for user-reported police radar/laser.

I’m guessing you slow down no matter where it’s coming from so why find out what might be too late.

Well....it might make more sense if you actually experienced a modern directional radar detector (e.g. Escort 360C) for a few days. I think you may have a different opinion....

Do you NEED an ultra sensitive detector....

Bottom line to me:
  • depends on how fast you drive (how much time you NEED to slow down once radar is triggered)
  • direction is important (not talking rural), especially if your detector is so sensitive, that it pics up stray bits of X,K and KA band at 2-3 miles away

Agree completely - I have the R1 as well, very pleased with it, very few false alarms. In California you can safely turn off K band - police radar is almost exclusively Ka band, so no need to buy the R3, unless you go out of state a bunch.

I did actually. Tried the 360 and was disappointed by the falses. Was a 30 year Escort user and wanted to stay with the brand.
I'm sorry I just don't get the value of the arrows over an earlier alert but that doesn't mean it does not have value to you and others.
For me a false coming from the left or right does not matter. Not be sarcastic just doesn't work for me. I find the R3 just works.

I get where you're coming from on that perspective...
Granted, a year ago, the 360 sucked due to all the 'falses'.

Yes, the 360 (not talking 360c) turned a lot of people off due to the false alarms due to blind spot.
One year later after many many Escort promises on their forum, the software update fixed that issue entirely.
Pretty sure that update finally landed in January of 2018.

Regardless, I'm glad there are options to help different drivers with different commutes under different circumstances.

Hello All,

Today only, ebay has a 20% off code (PICKDADSGIFT) that works for everything. This is your chance to get the best RD going (Uniden R3) for way below MSRP.

Make sure you buy from an authorized seller. I bought mine (in March) from gps-radar-shop. No affiliation.

There is talk of the R3 coming out with arrows in the not too distant future. While nice as I liked them on my V1, this thing eats the lunch of the V1 as it is.

How does it eat its lunch exactly?]

Well I ran both of them in Car for 700 miles and alerts were almost identical. Twice the alert was a second or 2 apart. We also ran both detectors in different cars up to NC, and same result.

All those published tests are designed to do one thing and one thing only.
