2018 Radar Detector Thread

I lived I Cincinatti in the early 80's. Bought my first Escort there, was their headquarters then. Have been loyal until now. Never thought I would own a Uniden but the R3 was a game changer. I wanted a simple detector that had great range and would block out a lot of the falses from cars with lane change assist.
This is the easiest and best detector I have had so far. Have it on a Blendmount connected to my fuse box. I will pair it with the ALP laser system at some point.

Race Car
I've had V1 for years and have updated them to the last version (last year). I've NEVER been caught off-guard with it. Ever. It can detect police miles away, and I've spotted them way before others, where I'm able to slow down and move to the right lane, only for the car(s) behind me being stopped a mile ahead.
If you read the manual you can tweak some frequencies if they are giving you more false alarms in your particular situation. I did that in my Macan due to the lane change assist and that solved all the false alarms for good.
It comes with a manual for a reason...
Highly recommended. Also had it installed with a blend mount and wired it to the fuse box. Clean and looks as part of the car. Turn on the car, and it turns on. Shut the car down and it goes off.
Also you can get the BOB so it does not act up if you have auto start/stop active.

I think he just meant that he will get a laser jammer in the future to compliment his R3.
I am also looking for a new radar detector since my 10 month old Passport 9500IX was either lost or stolen. Looks like the R3 is the way to go and will fit the same blendmount that worked with the Passport.

I recently got an Escort Max 360C and so far it is working very well in the Denver area. It has far fewer false alarms than my old 9500ix, while still detecting police radar. The directional arrows do work well, if a bit slowly as you pass by a source. But I pretty much insist on the GPS feature for two reasons: first, it's nice to have an accurate speed indicator, given the inaccurate speedometer in the 991. Second, Colorado is full of stationary radar installations designed to slow you down, and I like the ability to lock these out.
For now, I'm using the windshield mount because I prefer the detector low ont he windshield. The Blendmount is a neat installation but I think I would be bothered by the detector blocking my visibility. I shall try putting it on the windshield to the right of the mirror, as that location has some space, but it might be hard to see the easily see warnings. I might try to create some sort of low pedestal to mount it on the dashboard about where the SC wart would be.
Next weekend, I'll be driving from Denver to Joliet, IL and back and will provide an open-road update.

The new valentine was constantly false alarming due to multiple in-car radar systems. I kid you not - in a six block drive it went off 3 separate times. I was able to identify the Range Rover, Escalade, and Mercedes that caused the alarms. I found that ridiculous and will send it back. Frustrating when you have had such good experience with a company for many years - then need to move on.
On the other hand, one solution to your problem could be using the SAVVY accessory, and have it shut down alerts below 40 MPH for example. That should alleviate most city driving false alerts.
Cheers!
Alex.

Uniden R3. Have a V1, passport 9500ix but prefer the new Uniden. Excellent range. Customizable settings.

I am trying to update my decades old knowledge. I have a couple of 10-15 yr old Valentine units that pre date laser, lane change radar etc. I know I can get them updated for a cost but it sounds like the Uniden R3 is now besting the Valentine which has traditionally been the best. I read some reviews of the R3. Most liked it, but I read this review from the Best Buy site:
The possible "hidden cost". The fact that is is a Microsoft Windows only device if you want to keep the firm ware up to date. If you have a Mac, you must invest in Parallels for Mac at a cost of $70 and Windows 10 for a cost of $120. Then you must have some knowledge of how to Partition your Mac and install the software. If you are someone technical, your are ok, maybe. I have Parallels and Windows 10. I spent 2 to 3 hours and 3 calls to Uniden and still could not, with their help, get the new firmware installed. No update, bad device...... It goes back to BB today. I will accept the responsibility of failing to get the firmware installed, but there is still the miss information on Uniden's part about this being a Microsoft Windows only device.......... It doesn't even tell you that you need to purchase a USB cable not included.
I am not super tech savvy, but do you have to be able to connect these now for firm/software updates?

Thank you all for the information and input.
I've decided to go with the new 360C. I'm planning to order a blend mount and use the mirror taps right in the above console. Does anyone know which length cord works perfectly for this without too much excess?

I've tried most of them...
I keep going back to Escort 360/360c because I love the directional abilities and overall package....even if I have to sacrifice a little distance.
I have since upgraded to the 360c version in both my cars. Smaller size, same capabilities but easier to update wirelessly.
