Default Custom radar detector installation for a cabriolet

I’ve finally decided to have a custom radar detector installed in my 991.1 TTS cabriolet. I’m going with the Escort MAX Ci 360. I’m struggling a bit with the placement of the controls and the display. I want this installation to be unobtrusive, and look as close as possible to a factory accessory. I don’t have the smoking package in my car; It has the small storage bin in the console instead of an ashtray. I love the idea of a custom mirror display, but that option apparently isn’t available without giving up my auto-dimming rear view mirror. I really don’t want to eliminate the auto-dimming feature.

Does anyone have pics of a particularly good installation in a cabriolet? I’m leaning towards a custom installation of the controls in the console bin. I’m not sure where to install the display.

Thanks.

You can put the controller in the ashtray flush mounted regardless of whether you have the smokers package.

For display there are two very discreet options:
- radar mirror (inside the mirror)
- Midcity engineering (interfaces with the screen in the instrument cluster).

Thanks! I think I am going to put the controls in a flush mount in the console, without the lid. I’d like to have easy access to the controls.

I have no interest in the mirror display because I would lose auto-dimming.

I really like the mid city integration option - I’ll have to do some additional research on that one!

I appreciate the info.

Looking around - I don’t see Porsche integration on the mid city website. It must be a new solution.

I suggest you call them to ask about it.

I have the midcity integration on our 2018 AMG E63S. It's not bad, but the Escort display is better if you don't mind mounting it. In the Mercedes there was nowhere to mount I found acceptable. In the Porsche I would put it above the mirror like in one of the photos I shared.

My installer called. It’s not available for the 991.1.

I’m still not sure where to mount it. The display for the MAX 360 Ci is quite large. I’m afraid it will be too big to mount by the mirror, but we’ll try some different locations when my installer receives the unit.

Thanks for the suggestions.

How about inserting the display at this location?

Is that flush mounted? It looks like it is. If so, that might be a good option.

That's a bad location because you can't see it from the drivers seat without having to tilt your entire torso over to the right. The display should be in a location where it is easily glanced with minimal distraction.

f you want it near the steering wheel a better answer is the steering column.
