Thank you for the great DIY.

I just installed a MTX-1015 MirrorTap on my 2012.5 991.1 C2S with the auto dimming mirror. It went great and the only thing I did differently was use the other (left) side of the same connector for power because the leads (2nd smallest) seemed to fit best on that side. I probably could have gotten away with a few inches shorter Mirror Tap but the extra tucks away just fine.
I am still using the stock small 2 suction cup mount for the R3 in a similar spot to the OP's mount and like that location.

I couldn't see paying hundreds for a mount and some wire either. I found this on Amazon and it worked great.

Perfect instructions. Posts like this are why I love Rennlist.

For my '17 / 991.2, I had to use the smallest adapter for the mirror tap and everything worked to plan. The plug was in the same spot albeit blue on both sides. I had to tap in on the male side.

Thanks!

Really great instructions. Installed for the R7 and added the Blendmount today.

I tried to install Mirror Tap and I noticed I don't have blue wire.
I have 991.2 GTS with regular sunroof and no auto dimming rearview mirror.
I have one harness on the passenger side with Purple, Brown and Brown/Black wires.
Can anyone help me witch wire I need to tap on?

I just did this to my gt4, which doesn't have the auto dim mirror. I connected the black to the brown plug and the red to the black/red plug. It works fine, but always has power, unlike the yellow plug (which we don't have), that turns off with the car. This isn't a big deal for me as I only use my radar detector on freeway drives.

Thanks so much for your informative instructions. I had previously been misinformed by a video on the Blendmount website and attached my Mirror tap to the Homelink and Interior lights. It turns out that is on all the time. So I set up my R3 to automatically shut off with no movement in half an hour but that is not as good as hooking into a source that shuts off when the car shuts off. When I called Blendmount technical support they were no help at all. They say they cant be expected to know how to hook their products up to the hundreds of cars that are out there. In my book that is completely unacceptable. If you want to sell a product, you have to be the expert on how it gets installed.

Went out to the garage loaded with a print out of the photo showing the blue/yellow connector and my credit card to open the up the panel the easy way. TOOK TWO MINUTES FROM START TO FINISH. Now my R3 goes on and off with the car!!! Thanks again so much. Just shows you how valuable a tool information is.

Just a quick note that I used the MT-1015 kit at the recommendation from the folks at Blendmount, and it was perfect - the tap sizes were exactly the right size for a snug fit in the blue molex connector. No need to spend the extra money for the MTX kit for my car, which is a 991.2 Turbo S. As indicated earlier in this thread, I tapped into the blue molex connector: Blue for switched power, and Brown for ground. Here are some pictures:

Is it possible to plug the taps in without unclipping the connector? I have the single blue connector clipped on both sides and it's seemingly pretty attached.

yes, I did mine while plugged in. It was a struggle but I was able to work the wires in there. As an aside, the other week I left my detector plugged in/on for three days and my car started up without any problems so i think the power draw is pretty minimal.
