Default 991.2 Powerkit worth it

Hey guys,
I have a few weeks left before my freeze date on a Carrera S. Debating if I should shell out the extra $6-7K for the Powerkit (already have it spec'd with Sport Package which is basically half the $13k cost). This will be DD only car, no tracking. To stay within budget, I'll have to let go of some goodies such as black wheels, premium package, multifunction steering wheel, and SPASM suspension. Questions for you:

1. Do you really feel a major torque/HP difference on daily driving? (My driving can be spirited but no plans for tracking)
2. Is the Powerkit worth it over the other options above that I would have to let go of? (I don't think I'll do an ECU tune any time soon or ever as I'm worried about the factory warranty void)
3. Does Powerkit increase resale value in 4-6 years? (current GTS is a little outside of budget)

Thanks so much!

If it were my car, I'd spend $1800 on a GIAC tune to gain 100 HP/TQ. All the money saved would be spent elsewhere. Check this out: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1040...stock-2-a.html

You might want to take a look at this.

I'd for sure spec it if I had an open allocation.

For a street car, probably not. My 4s has 420 hp and frankly, the base engine with 370 hp is more than enough for me for street driving. I couldn't really discern a huge difference in performance between the base and S models with the manual transmission. I test drove both and the S was slightly punchier. Ended up wthe S because it was an available allocation.
The S vs GTS is less of a difference in power but I haven't driven the GTS.

The power kit is not going to get that much for the street. You wont notice it. The S has plenty of power. I wouldn't give up those options for the power kit. You will miss them as a daily driver.

SPASM > Powerkit, at least for me when it comes to $ vs enjoyment (handling and visual). The base 991.2 is already very fast for the street. 991.2S even faster, GTS/PK is 996 GT2 power. The latter two are fun to think about, but I am never bummed with 370 hp on the street. There is on-paper horsepower and torque, and then experiential horsepower and torque. Even the base 991.2 excels in the latter. YMMV.

Of course, you can always add the Powerkit later, and more easily than some of your other options...

Definitely worth it, but not at the cost of premium package IMO.

I have nothing but love for everyone here, but there are a lot of resident geezers who give 0 ****s about power and tq. If you do, get it, you will feel a difference with the bigger torque and power and you will surprise some people on the street wink wink.

A narrow body car with a powerkit would be a rarity. If I was searching pre-owned and stumbled upon an S with a powerkit I would make that car my priority unless it had some disgusting agate grey/pebble interior.

I just got the powerkit on my 991.2 C4S in December. It took me a while over the holidays to rack up enough break-in miles. Now, I'm able to run high revs and boost the new turbos. I have noticed it pulls harder at higher revs, but it feels more sluggish below 2k - the time to get the boost built up is a wee bit longer, too. Interestingly, I actually think it is more pleasant as a daily driver since I have found I'm less likely to goose it 1st gear and break the rear tires loose on wet roads (they are always wet in Seattle). It hasn't happened yet, actually.

If I was trading off against some other options to control the budget, I'd consider the things I'd enjoy most often as the highest priority. The base and S are already fantastic cars, and there are plenty other options to make them more fantastic besides power: RAS, SC, LED lights, even the seats and a leather interior would take priority in my budget. The car was already damn fast before the powerkit.

You need to ask yourself why you want the powerkit. For me it wasn't about resale or about performance on the track, it's simply because: POWER. For it's own sake. Not especially useful or rational, just makes me happy. And that's really the point. What will make you happy, and what will you regret every day if you don't spec it?

I like this way of thinking about it. Similar to the thought experiments I did while speccing my car. What would I drive around wishing I had?

Great advice, thanks everyone.

Nick Murray’s stock C4S vs tuned C4S video shows pretty amazing performance gains.
But more importantly, his 991.2 GTS vs C4S video suggests less throttle responsiveness like digits posted as well. I guess this makes sense since powerkit has larger turbos in addition to a tune.

I think best way of doing this for me is keeping original build and getting an ECU tune in a few years when factory warranty is up. I drive 15k miles annually so 50k will come soon. By then we’ll know if these engines can take it. It just seems like an ECU tune is much more usable performance vs powerkit but with all the warranty issues and engine blow up concerns.
