That shift lever is a huge DO NOT WANT. I found that if I was in manual, I much preferred to shift with the center stick, which gave some (but obviously not all) of the feel of a manual shifter. That little nubbin pretty much destroys that, and is probably unpleasant just using to go from forward to reverse due to the poor ergonomics.
I want to think it's purely pre-production jury-rig, like the blocks to the right of the center, but I can't understand why they'd make something that looked like that even for a jury rig.
In the meantime, my MT car has arrived at my dealership, so it's not really an immediate concern for me.

Porsche has done an amazing job keeping design cues from early 911 on the exterior. They have had hard time doing this on some generations of interiors. I would expect the interior in the spy shots to be the next Macan not the 911. Maybe it will be different in person.

Porsche. By Audi.
Looks horrible. Between that and the exterior, they should just call it something else. The 911 is dead.

If you look closely you'll notice that it's not finished. Nothing fits together, vents, some buttons and most panels appear to be placeholders - anything could be a placeholder, even the displays seem to be tacked on.

And similar to the exterior it's far too early to tell how it'll look like in finished form just like any 911 mule previously and it'll be yet another thing entirely to see it in real life.
But as long as Rennlisters have something to complain about.

For me the 991 is one of the sweetest 911 designs, personally love the 964, 991 and 997.2 Looking at the 996 design, you can see what went wrong... Please try and retain what is recognisably 911

The 991 will be the last 911 to wear a bespoke rear engine chassis. The 992 will be a modular platform that will sharedly underpin mostly mid engine sports cars across the VAG range. I think that’s one big factor as to why the interior looks so uncharacteristic and generic Audi-esque luxo-SUV. It’s literally designed with hard points to accommodate other brands.

Maybe this is deliberate guys....think about it....991.2 looks more appealing and sensible as a new car purchase now, maybe more will stomach the 3.0L for the awesome interior and actual shifter vs nubbin
The .2 sales were apparently struggling
I had an idea that this would happen based on the Cayenne and Panamera design, and just in my opinion I really wish Porsche didn't go this direction for the 992, so I swung for the fences on the GT3 and I am going to keep that car God willing for a very long time

I'm saving up now to buy one in 2 -3 years. Given the direction the 911 and the rest of the auto world is going (turbo, auto transmission, hybrid, etc) I think I'll keep that car the rest of my life.

I'll see your Nephrite Green 996 and raise you a Purple and Green 996:
The first water-cooled Porsche I ever drove was a 97 Boxster in late-96. I passed on it, but it was Arctic Silver over Nephrite Green and for some reason I was mesmerized -- to this day I have a soft spot for Nephrite, but it would have to have a black wheel, black rugs and black door tops, much like the current two-tone leather Porsches do. BUT NO ROSEWOOD!!!
Then it would be a bit more like the BMW Evergreen interiors from the same period:
