I wonder if Uncle Sugar will deeply subsidize this one too. If not he’s screwed.

My biggest deal is that Elon is increasingly falling behind on his claims. Model 3 deposit date was March 2016 and very few cars have been produced to date. To me, that was a big cash grab for a company that is hundreds of millions in the red. Now we have this lovely thing, which, by the way was introduced fairly close to some pretty negative financial reports. Coincidence? Don’t think so. Oh, and why don’t you send Tesla $50k deposit. Don’t worry? It’ll be here in 3 years. Or so. Thanks for the cash.

A lot depends on what is meant by sports car. It generally means a car that can go very fast in a straight line and especially around corners, but it can also mean a grand touring car. Porsche sports cars range from very fast and hairy track/street racers to comfortable but fast grand tourers. While all Porsche sports cars can be tracked, some are more at home on a track than others and some are designed to be more comfortable and luxurious than the more racing-oriented models.

That said, I think that the Tesla aims to be a very fast touring car rather than a pur sang trackable sports car. And unlike Porsche, which makes a broad gamut of models, Tesla is only making one, and no matter what that is, no single model will be able to outdo every car that Porsche (or other manufacturers) offers. To be successful,Tesla's sports car must find a niche that it can fill successfully. Let's see.

Prediction: you won't be able to kill yourself in this thing if you try. Even the nannies will have nannies.

Maybe a typo but under 9s? Actually, 0-100 mph in a reported 4.2 seconds (https://www.tesla.com/roadster/)
1/4 mi in 8.8 (trap speed not reported)

The acceleration numbers seem unbelievable to me and I'll believe it when I see it.

Hmm... the best performing hyper car in the world?
They'll sell every one they can build (just maybe not to RL members)!

Impressive for sure. The future is this so all the manual loving, loud engine “have to feel connected” to the car type guys hang on to your cars. When my kids are my age I would bet that all the top performance companies will have all electric sports cars.

straight line speed is crazy, range on the battery is impressive and probably the biggest downfall so far for Tesla is people want more range and a faster “fill up”. Say what you will he will get more deposits on this car than he will be able to build, that is what he does.

More impressive are the semis. If you can affordably create a new semi to do what they do better with less emissions, good night Peterbuilt, Freightliner etc.Walmart has said they are already on board to be the first out with a fleet of them.

I'm always amazed by the number of seemingly intelligent people who believe the Musk BS. He's always announcing some future great thing while failing to deliver what he promised a year ago and folks lap it up. What's the ring time for this non existent "sports" car?

Good night Peterbilt my *ss. He's yet to come anywhere near building what he promised to do years ago.

The car enthusiast in me is not interested.

The engineering enthusiast in me is impressed.

The TSLA owner in me hopes Elon collects that $$$$.
