Thoughts on the new Tesla Roadster
0-60 : 1.9s claimed
0 - 100: 4.2s claimed
1/4 mile : under 9 s claimed
Top speed 250mph claimed
Price initially 250k USD
Will this disrupt the sports car market or is it just a sham by Elon Musk to take attention away from his Model 3 woes? A halo car? Teslas history is that they dont always deliver on claims.
Just wondering what evryones thoughts are..

Let me think, a roadster that you put down the top so you don't hear anything....hmmmm no thanks! The term "Sports car" should not be associated with Tesla, they are a tech company, cars are 80% software, 20% car. I don't consider them a real car company. And that price point, you have a lot of competition like the Ferrari Sorrento or Aston DB11.

Suck the soul out of a car, turn it into a rolling battery, and you’d have a Tesla.
No Rumble, no passion, no buy.
It was never about the 0-60 times for me....
I wont even get into discussing the price or questionable long-term reliability. Yes yes that’s the inevitable future but I’ll stick to buying batteries only for my remote controls, for as long as possible.

I’m guessing it has a pretty low center of gravity and it probably does corner well.
I think it’s over priced. There’s stiff competition at the $250K level. If it competed against a base 911, they would probably sell more of them, especially to people who buy a car for status rather than the driving experience. I’m sure it will have a strong following, like other Tesla models.

With a battery that big, it will be heavy and not corner well. Tesla is not known for it's suspension system anyway.
I'd rather drive a car on play station than drive an electric roadster.

LOL... these reactions are as much as I expected from RL.
No one is even curious to drive it or see it in person? I hate to say it, but we are looking at the future. I think its exciting to see the first iteration of a practical electric sports car with real performance and capable range.
I share the same sentiment as you all regarding the appliance"ness" of an electric sports car but I think we have to be open minded about this one. It sure sound like its going to be fun to drive, just record your cars rowing through the gears and play it through the speaker. Vroom Vroom

Pretty pricey to compete directly with most 911 models, and what about the weight. I admire Musk but there is a lot of hype too. Seems that the battery tech is on the verge of big improvements to make range and recharging on par with gas engine cars. When that happens the gas engine will be a rare curiosity. For now I will enjoy the hell out of my soon to be obsolete 911

Kinda like the incandescent -> CFL -> LED light bulb. CFLs should have never been created as LEDs were already available just needed to be mass produced with the resulting price reduced. Now they are the default and by a long stretch better then CFLs
I just have to believe there will be a better solution out there then just batteries and electric motors. Aside from speed,....the rest is just too dull.

I just posted a similar thread in the Mission E forum before I saw this one. The Tesla will never get me to sell my 911 50 or GT 3 but I have been thinking about the Mission E as future acquisition. It will be interesting to see what those in the Mission E forum think as they are already interested in a EV.
